Some of you may know I have been having back problems for some time now. I went to the Chiropractor for the first time today and found out I have a mild case of Scholiosis. I also have one leg a lil' shorter than the other which puts me out of alignment. The Doctor did appear optimistic. I go back in two weeks to find out what my X-Rays have to say. One good thing is I get to go see a massage therapist. I have always wanted to go. The Doctor pretty much insisted however he isn't going to get an arguement from me. I want to go. Does anyone else have Scoliosis? What are you doing for it? Can it be corrected or just made bearable to live with? Do you take anything for it?
peanuts look up sites on it just fill your mind with info on it and treatments. thats what i did when i was dignosed as bipolar. it helped me alot understand what was going on
Sometimes it requires surgery, if it's over 40 degrees. Sometimes a back brace...other times a chiropractor can "realign" it every few months so it won't always hurt.
Are you perhaps petite? Everytime I go to the doctor they say I need to get checked out, but everytime I get checked out they say I just have a slight curvature. Well my psychiatrist said that tends to happen to petite women. I have known people with scoliosis who have after a few years(around 3?) of 'treatment' been able to go on to live normal, unaffected lives, but they were all in the teenage years when they got 'treated' so maybe it gets a little harder the longer it progresses, I don't really know. But I hope things get better for you, massage therapy sounds like a treat instead of treatment. I'm sure you'll be fine, especially since it is mild, but better get on it now, before it progresses any farther. Good luck to you sweetie!
I am going to look it up on the net. I hope the Chiropractor can help realign it. I don't want to have to wear a brace. I am terrible wearing my glasses. I would suck at wearing a brace. Do you have back pain Jugg?
everyone has scoliosis only some people have rally bad cases where it's noticble like you for example. Me i dont have a severe case. but yes there is a way of correcting scoliosis. you could get a disectomy. basically what it they do in the operating room is they take the tissue away from the nerves so that you wont really feel the pain. Or Im not sure if this is accurate or not it's another operation where they break your back and then stick a metal pole along your spine to keep it straight. In your case Im not sure if that will help. Also question for you are you 15% or more scoliosis?
i had a small case of it when i was somewhat younger. never worried about it since i was still growing...its gone away. plus sitting straight up at the front of a chair for a year pretty much straightens out your back anyway...thank god i don't have to sit like that anymore...
Thank you honeyhannah I would of considered myself petite in my teenage years. I don't really consider myself that now. I'm 5 '1-117 pounds. I think I'm average. My weight fluctuates, more than I would like it to. Are you in any pain? What do you do for yourself when you are?
Thank you for the information however I have to say this sounds painful. I think my stomach looped about the metal pole. I will know more about perecentages and what's the next step after my X-rays come back. I have to go back in 2 weeks.
Actually this thread made me think about myself, I do get pretty bad back pain when I get in bed sometimes, I know I didn't get pain before, I might need to look into that. I've just been suffering, but it only happens every few months, or sometimes a little more.
Do you sleep on your stomach? The Chiropractor told me tonight that is the worst position you can sleep in. I do sleep that way. I have to learn to sleep on my side more. I don't mind sleeping on my back. I think my "high times" helped me get used to sleeping like that. Now it's natural for me to fall asleep in that postion without the high. If you think you have a problem now's the time to get it looked at. My worry is that this could progress. If you can get your pain reversed you'll be better off later.
yeah i do sleep on my stomach, i could sleep on my side, but i find it very hard to fall asleep on my back, well i really hope things work out for you soon, and that it doesn't become too much of a burden.
They do checks in schools these days... in 9th grade and 8th grade they did it at school. I think they do it at 11th to.
I have a very very mild case of it. I was diagnosed at 13 and only saw the doctor for it once right when I was diagnosed. It has never been a problem and I have never had to do anything for it or see anyone about it since then. The only thing is that if I sit or stand for long periods of time without supporting my back, it begins to ache. I assume that is because of scoliosis, but I dunno for sure. Every case is different Im sure. Its a very common thing.....very common. Anyway, if the doc says you have a mild case, then you probably have no reason to worry about it. Good luck though peanuts!
I sleep on my stomach a lot too...but I haven't experienced any back pain. I never go to sleep on my back...I have tried to because it's comfy but I am always afraid that I will swallow my tongue.
