hey,we're coming down that way (to dana point) for a wedding on the 31st, we have a tent and all our equipment, but we are basically country kids and don't really know the laws about camping near the city and couldn't find too much info on line about primitive campgrounds/site in that area.
    so i thought-hey,these sites are for networking,right?
so,if you know of any local places we can either camp at legally or hide out in safely, that would be awesome!
    thanks family!

There are several legal campgrounds along the beach near Dana Point, I think Doheny State Beach is closest. There is also camping at San Clemente State Beach, San Onofre State Beach which is further south. North west of LA there is camping at Leo Carrillo State Beach, Malibu Creek State Park and Point Mugo State Park. There is also camping in the mountains north/ne of LA, in the Angeles National Forest. Inland of Dana Point, there some campgrounds in the Cleveland Nation Forest - http://www.fs.fed.us/r5/cleveland/recreation/camping/campgrounds.shtml
The campgrounds near the ocean tend to fill up, especially on weekends, so maybe try to get reservations, if possible.
