Hey, just wondering if anyone know's any good books that teach guitar playing. It should also include what the different chords and strings too, since looking at the guitar, it is a blank slate that I know nothing about.

I would suggest googling for instruction manuals, it will save you time and money.

Check yard sales and flea markets.
I get them there for next to nothing as peolpe try to learn, then quit.

I have about 5 of them, but none work very well, you still have to practice!!!

im reading 'zen guitar' by philip toshio sudo. it's not about chords and guitar playing so much as it is about zen philosophy written in the language of guitar. it's very interesting and will give you a good direction no matter what level of skill you are at. i'd recommend it along with whatever informative guide of music theory you get.

peaceband chick, look over in Performing Arts at the new sticky. Perhaps a Web site will be the starting point you need and then you can spend the $$ on deeper instruction by book or teacher.

You might want to check a good music shop for video instruction. It would cost a bit more, but there's a ton of 'em out nowadays. Just spend some time talking with a knowledgeable clerk to be sure you're getting something that's not too advanced, but I bet you'd have good luck with that. Just another option to keep in mind.
