Anyone know when the knew internet is coming out? from what I've heard it's gonna have a pretty awesome speed (something like 5G a second). Just wondering if anyone had any idea of a release date.

Not anytime soon for the public, currently private organizations like schools and businesses have it, mainly because its hard to get qualified because there are restrictions on the minimum specs for use.

    i dunno about that
as they should be, they are scared about the advances in technology that are coming about. Their services are just about obsolete now, and with the advances that come with the 2nd internet, artists wont need these leeches to help them distribute their work. That is unless they some how manage to develop some kind of control on what info is distributed, and how it can be distributed.

One of the concepts of internet 2 is that everything will be centralized. There will be no need to buy any software anymore, as you can just run it off of a server. The same should apply with media, and unless these organizations somehow manage to monoplolize the transfer of media, I wouldnt be surprized to see independant organizations arise who have the interest of the artists in mind.

dyou really think that would be the case, even though there are so many free alternatives to what is out there now, when its not centralized?

plus, i doubt this will cause prices to increase. if anything, i think itll cause them to decrease. lets take a look at photoshop. Im sure that a very small percent of those people using it are actually paying for the license to do so. to buy a license for cs2, itll cost you $1200. now, if it were run centrally, they could guarantee that everyone using it would be paying for the license, which would bring the cost of the license down to a fraction of what it is now, making it affordable for anyone who wanted to use it.

But being centralized it would most likely be rather than buying a product, you would be paying for a service, the use of said product.. :( Likely continuously.. At least that's the idea as I understand it. nyway, I don't want my shit centralized, I'd like to maintain control over it.

i think thats the point though
right now, you are paying for (or pirating) the use of the product, as you dont own the product yourself. this will just give the owner of the software control over it. being someone who plans on making a living out of creating software, i tend to like this idea over the current model.

  9. I don't like centralized if only because I hex edit things.....

    a lot.....

additionally this says to me MMORPG type model for everything with the subscription fees.....
