Hey i have been trying to play the banjo for 3 years and I suck. How long did it take you to learn to play the thing? I play every day. I wood use it for fire wood if there was more wood in the dam thing, I guess I will just keap trying.
use your thumb on the little b string and the bass notes. we will call the thumb, 1. alternate between the bass and that little string. your index finger is 2, your middle finger is 3. ready? 1, 2, 3, 1, 2, 3, 1, 3. (that should equal 8, either 8 eigth notes or quarter notes i forget). on that last note you can play 2 or 3 or mix em up or hit both. you can also mes around going 1, 3, 2, 1, 3, 2, 1, 2. remember always play in G for Jesus.
although I want to post all my banjo jokes, I won't. Get a block of lessons, or at least a video (not CD) lesson. getting the finger/wrist position correct is EVERYTHING. For any instrument. I 've played Celtic harp, clarinet (ugh) piano, mando and hand drums, and carpal tunnel SUCKS.
