If anyone has read the "rolling stone 50 greatest artists of all time", I wonder if you realized that pink floyd weren't in it. I mean, you could say that about anyone who didnt get in, but come on man, it's pink floyd. I mean there's madonna and U2 in it, and personally i dont know anyone who would chose maddonna or U2 over pink floyd.
Well, what do you expect from a corporate magazine like Rolling Stone? Rolling Stone has been shit since the early 80's. I hardly even consider it a music magazine. It's a fashion magazine -- and an advertisement/propaganda rag. An overpriced one at that!

Notice how it took them 6 spaces to list a black artist? Bunch of racists think the Beatles are better than Hendrix? Bullshit I cry. Hendrix changed music forever, the Beatles only changed pop culture.
these lists can only really be comprised through record sales, money made, or how influential the band was. thats why the beatles are top. this is the fist chart of its type that ive ever seen ray charles in. which is kinda sick
Lists sucks... I mean where is Beefheart or Zappa, Deep Purple or Led Zeppelin or The Acid Mothers Temple? Just mainstreamshit - like the rolling stone magazin is.
If i buy a music publication, it's Spin or Filter. Everyone on here should pick upa copy of Filter, it's excellent.
The problem with lists is that ( and this may make me sound naieve coz i dont know how this list was compiled) unless the lists have had some sort of public input, they are gonna be one magazine or individual persons own personal choice and that means that not everyone will agree with the final list. Its the same as when a band produces a greatest hits album. The fans will have their own favourite song by that band that they think should be on the cd and then it turns out that every song on the cd are the ones they dont like!! You cannot please everyone - so you shouldnt take these lists too personally, they arent set in stone. Someone else in the future will compile a similar list and the same thing will happen all over again. peace and love xxxxxx
I like Q magazine's list of the top 10 bands ever: Pink Floyd Led Zeppelin Rolling Stones U2 Queen Dire Straits Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band The Beatles Bob Marley and the Wailers Fleetwood Mac
As for Rolling Stone's list... Led Zeppelin better than the Velvet Underground? No. Madonna, Michael Jackson, U2, and Nirvana better than John Lennon? No. And U2 being on the list at all is a joke. John Cale, Lou Reed, Brian Eno, King Crimson, Jethro Tull, the Yardbirds, Cream, and tons of others didn't make the list. What else is new? Bleh.
The Band is number 50?! Public Enemy before Janis?! Somehow I see something morally wrong with this... And the Rolling Stones are NOT better than Zeppelin. It's a proven fact.
that doesnt look any better. lists are just biased opinions of those people that were involved in making the list, why does anyone need to become obsessed about what rolling stone, q, spin, or any other magazine tells them is the best band ever? and how the fuck did the velvet underground get on that rolling stone list?
are you ignorant?? last time I checked, chuck berry was a black artist, therefore it took them 5 spaces (not 6) to mention a black artist. But who cares really?. And he paved the way for your precious jimi hendrix. He should be listed above hendrix.
Since when are the Velvet Underground or Ray Charles mainstream? The list is pretty solid too me, Pink Floyd, The Who, and the Doors should have made it though.
