I had a lot of spare time today (I'm at home, sick with the flu) so I watched this movie which I had gotten a long time ago, and just never found the time to spend 4 hours watching a movie.

I couldn't believe how good the movie was. I was on the edge of my seat almost the whole time, and I believe that it also changed my thoughts on the Vietnam War and more currently, the War On Terror.

I thought before that it would be a really good idea if the US pulled out of Iraq, now I KNOW that they should. I'll stop here to prevent a long rant.

Yeah man that movies bomb. My fave part is when there in the helicopter while flight of the valkries is playing. Probably the best straight up war movie ever made.

Hmm I wouldn't say it's the best because they all cover different wars... It's definitly one of the best Nam movies though, same with Sniper 2 with Tom Berrenger

AN is a dark movie, no doubt about it. It really illustrates the human animal in a way few movies have been able to capture.

This may well be my all time favorite movie. Just an amazing study of the dark side of the human psyche.

I think my friend might finally be returning my Apocalypse DVD after around a year of me thinking I'd lost it(He told me he gave it back, and my memory is always a little foggy so I let it slide). It remains one of my favorite movies.

Full Metal Jacket is good for the first half, but the last part when they're actually in Vietnam is sort of cheesy/bad.

yeah, FMJ wasn`t that great. A classic none-the-less, but still... Nowhere NEAR as good as ApocNow.

Yeah I brought the Redux the other day, never seen it before then......I enjoyed it but its the sort of movie you have really got to pay attention too, and it is long. So it probaly means I wont get many other chances to watch it.

I also watched Platoon, another incredible movie....demonstrating the brutality of the Vietnam War straight up.

Rant away... there really needs to be an explosion of antipathy from the population in general and an informed rant could be its flash point.

    I agree- GREAT movie!

They really made a bunch of great Vietnam movies. Apocalypse Now is my favorite, but I loved Platoon, too. I really need to see Full Metal Jacket and The Deer Hunter.

The Deer Hunter is just weird. Really strange movie. Reminded me of Deniro in Taxi Driver.

The origional was way better, the edit was more inclined to the actual madness that the story was designed to portray. Redux, just ruined it really, threw a comic twist, as well as a human twist into the story, while the origional edit actually was a good capture of the maddness or war. The insanity without distraction.

    The original cut was incredible.
It was creepier and more about how Ben (and Kurtz) went mad in the jungle.
The redux definately had some funnier bits added to it, and it was longer.

I guess that's both good and bad.
It was longer, and had some comedy, which is good.
But...the insanity of it went down.
It's not as creepy with funny parts in it.

    Still...I love that movie :)

Insanity without distraction, I like that. My friend and I agree the original version was better, as Redux is way too long on a few scenes.
