The world turns, and gets much worse. Arafat's death would be a political tragedy I feel. He may be awkward to deal with, and his power base may have been sidelined, but who else can unite the Palestinian people over negotiations for peace? It's either him, or Hamas. I know who I'd rather....
Now the Paris hospital have said he's still alive! http://www.sky.com/skynews/article/0,,30000-1158426,00.html
Arafat dead, Israeli government in turmoil, occupation, suicide bombings, troops in Iraq, bin Laden videos, Bush re-elected and stronger than ever, throw in a couple of nuclear powers, I'm scared....
"Mr Arafat has not died." He added: "His clinical situation has become more complex." What the fuck.....
Even if he survives, brain dead, the Palestinians will be in trouble. Imagine a brain dead President! They'll be just like America....
Don't you just love political doublespeak? That probably means "he'll die very soon but we don't want a panic so we'll keep it quiet"
Why is it a political tradgedy, anyone who remembers the 1970s will know of the outrageous terrorism the PLO headed by Arafat wrecked on the Middle East. The aeroplane hijackings, the assasinations, kidnappings, bombings and armed robberies, extortion and drug deal that went on to pay for the terror campaign. Also there was no call for a Palestinian state between 1949 and 1967 when the occuppied terrortries were under the control of Eygpt and Jordon. Only when Israel won control of these areas after the 1967 six day war did calls for a Palestinian state appear, with a massive campaign of terrorism. Most people don't know all the facts of the Middle East crisis. For example as well as 700,000 Palestinians being forced out of Israel in 1948, 700,000 Jews were forced out of arab countries aswell at the same time. Neighbouring arab countries have also for 56 years refused to give Palestinian refugees and their descendants citizenship in the countries they fled too. Instead using them as political pawns in their dispute with Israel.
I'm not saying Arafat is a good leader, in fact I'm sure he's positively difficult to deal with. But who would take his place?
I found it interesting that Bush called Israel his friends then tagged the palestines onto the end of the convo on the radio tonight. He will stomple all over the Palestinians... We need to step up the pressure I fear Love Clairexxx
