well that is a mater of perspective,
if you are 19 and like doing "opiates"
and are really into hedonism being a hippie
is something different from someone who is
    over 40.

    Me 56yo, non conformist,
I guess you would say that I'm a real hippie.

To me being a hippie is being free,
free to live your own way.
If that means dreads, opiates, hedonism,
means that you are a hippie then I guess
    you are.

I have made some observations in the 6 months
that I have been a member here.
Maybe around 10% here are old school hippies,
90% are modern hippies outlined above.

That's not a problem, there are plenty of
people to share with who are older hippies.

So when you see a post that says
"does your girlfriend like sucking your cock
    after you ass fucked her?"

    or
"If you don't have dreads or extreme tats or
piercing etc etc , your are not a hippie"

    etc etc etc etc etc

then just scroll down and forget about it.

Also there are a lot of teen's here. very young
and very immature who make weird post to get
    a reaction, don't react.

Have fun here, and take it a la carte, some good
    some bad.

Some great advice. I am new to the hip forums and during comments found myself being called names after giving some advice to a younger person and fell into the negativity and responded negatively when I should have ignored it. I am a work in progress daily ego checks are needed:D

i think there were many artists, musicians, authors, scientists and so on who were influenced by the atmosphere in the 60's. and on the other hand there were at the same time were contributing things to the world that were accepted to be hippie ideas even though they were doing their own thing.......i think every generation tends to be looked at in this way.i know from persoal experience i have lived freely.i've tried living my life in a humane way ,politness and kindness are important to me.i've never strived to be a hippie but i was certainly influenced by the times.

well, i don't know what your definition is of "real hippy" so i can't answer your query. i think the word "hippy" is kind of like the word "God". as soon as you think you know what it is you know you don't know. i mean, **shrug** i'm not even sure i'm a "real hippy". whatsa hippy? what does one look like? sound like? smell like? feel like? does it walk like a duck? i seldom walk like a duck.

I think a lot of people identify with the dream of a peace led planet and the free live and let live attitude of the first hippies. I am sure many straight looking conformists are flower children in their hearts. No matter your age Peace Love and happiness are wonderful ways to lead ones life. If you identify yourself as a hippie it is probably some thing in your heart leading you toward enlightenment and freedom. Just my opinion. Peace.
