right I'll try and summarise this because it went on for a while.
So I was walking back from classes today and this young girl gave me a leaflet and asked if i believed in god, i said 'no'. So she asked what I believed and I said i believed we just die and thats the end of it, but that I've considered that we may get reincarnated. She looked at me like i was fucking crazy and said how could I not believe in god and started on about adam and eve and all that.
Anyway I told her that it's cool that she has her faith and beliefs but we're all entitled to our own opinion and she shouldn't push her beliefs on others.
Then she said 'Yeah fine but I'm scared for you!" WTF!! She said she was scared for me because I won't be saved for my sins and therfoe will not be allowed into heaven. That pissed me off so much, when people preach and try to scare you into their beliefs. I said it's not nice for her to say she's scared for me. And she said ' But I am really scared for you' .And So I told her not to worry about me and that I'll be fine and walked off.

But argh i got so angry! I'm cool with whatever you want to believe but to push it on someone else... she didn't even try and listen to my reasons for not believing in god even when i listened to her for quite a while! Arrghh annoying ! :$

A proper Christian does not push their beliefs onto others, but respects their beliefs. At least that is how I am.

That's what I thought, I even told her she should respect my beliefs just as I respect her decision to have her own beliefs. But no..she said I should pray to god and ask for forgivness of my sins.

Don't let these people phase you.
They're beliefs are a joke- a god of love who sends people to hell forever? It's sheer crap.
    They don't respect anyone else's belief - they're brainwashed.
Just be true to yourself -

if you really don't wanna here anyhting from them...ignore them...say "no" and be on your way...but as soon as it "appears" that you have even the slightest bit of intrest in what they say, they will try and keep you there at all costs...

most "booth" poeple work that same way

    They have no choice!

Eternal life or death is at stake.

God has told them that ONLY by accepting Jesus Christ as our personal savior can we achieve eternal life.

Wouldn't you expect them to warn you if you were about to drive unknowingly off a killer cliff?

If they truly believed, they would certainly warn you without hesitation.

To hesitate means that their belief is less than real, and their love of you, their neighbor, less than real.

To hesitate exposes their doubt and seals their fate.

Belief is a powerful psychological tool that the Ego effectively turns to when our psyche is gripped by fear, such as in this case, Death-Fear.

Moreover, with Social Herd Primates, numbers create confidence, and anyone found NOT conforming to Herd beliefs threatens to cast doubt in the minds of others within the Social Herd.

Psychologically, they need the confidence of their beliefs, so be patient.

Heh... I was just sitting alone in the courtyard on my campus. (i dont have friends.) and these two girls came up to me, and said can we talk to you? Oooh, friends, I thought. but nooo.. They talked to me for like five minutes about normal stuff(building rapport) and then they tried to get me to join their club. They even said I could come just to check it out even though I'm not 'saved', just like they said to you. I just laughed when they said that... I even let them sit pray for me right there, cause they asked to. It was funny when they prayed though. The girl talking was just so exited and kept saying "oh, god I ask you to .... and god I ask you.... and in the name of your great son i ask you... and god I ask you..." and she kept going on like that for like 15 things. I don't remember exactly what she prayed for. They both had their eyes closed and i had a huge smile on my face, barely holding in laughter. Eventually they left and gave me their phone numbers.

hahaha.... damn that happened to me in a shithouse little train station in hungary. this woman followed me around til i finally sat down with her and she lectured me, told me her story, gave me pamphlets.... at first i was actually responding and attempting real conversation but eventually i just faked total, awed belief in everything she said and she was appeased and left me.

Hmm I disagree. I hesitate, question and doubt my faith constantly. Doubt is not the opposite of faith. The minute the questioning ends, and you think you understand God, that's when your faith becomes faulty. A true faith is a questioning one.

    Peace , God Bless,

    me

If there is a god, which I wonder about, then surly the universe is a question that we should wonder about and try to answer. It would also seem that there would be many roads to that answer. If there is not a god, then I still believe that looking for the answer is a worthwhile activity.

    Very true.
Totally agree with m6ms post too, very well put.
Helps you understand, and feel a bit sorry for them.

Generally I just humor them, I'm strong enough in my beliefs and respectful of theirs not to let it be an issue. Then we both go away feeling better for it.
Of course if they actually knew what I did and believed they really would be terrified; it violates at least five commandments, often with pyrotechnics and nudity. :)
Seriously though I figure being a good person, by whatever morality, is far more relevant than some aribitary choice of religious affiliation. I'm sure 'God' knows that too, and 'he' is apparently rather forgiving. Which is where Christianity falls apart for me, too many serious inconsistances.

It always amuses me to think; well hang on, what if there is indeed a true religion, but it's not Christianity. Boy are they gonna look silly turning up in the after life expecting heaven and it ends up being nirvana or something!

Not that I believe in 'a true religion' in any context other than there being a right one for you.

That's because you haven't been Born Again.

Only after you've been Born Again as a Child will your innocent heart be pure in belief of The Father.

Only Born Again Christians, like President Bush, possess the UNdoubting faith to enter The Father's Kingdon.

Christianity is an Existential Leap of Faith: Hesitate, and We fall.

Hmm,,, so you think that you cannot hold a faith unless it is one that refuses to acknowledge any other truths out in the world as valid? You don't think there is such a thing as a questioning faith?

i could really care less what people believe honestly as long as they dont press it on me constantly and bother me about it. people might be really afraid for the fact that i dont believe in god but the fact that matters is that i believe ill be alright. i dont think theres heaven or hell so when people tell me im going to hell for not believing, i could really give a shit because i dont believe in it. why fear what you dont believe exists?

but thats not how a lot of christians are. i like the nice ones, like the hippie nuns who went to protest civil rights. that kind of christian is cool. but yeah i get a lot of preaching because my dad is a jehovas witness, my aunt is in a cult, and my mom is catholic. they all want me to join them. im happy being non religious and having a buddhist philosophy thank you very much.

God must really be annoyed by these needy people. "Now that I am saved, God, can I have *random thing* and will you do *random thing* and will you help *random person* and will you give me *random thing* and will you bless *random thing* and will you allow *random thing* and will you watch over *random person*..."

Must be exhausting. I'd be wondering wtf I'd got myself into! No wonder he sends a bunch of us to hell! lol
