Only God is good. God and good then are synonymous terms. Good the secular expression of God. There is not one of us who is not devoted to our God of good. Where your treasure lies, there is your heart also. Is your good God, or is your God good cheese burgers?
This is like saying all squares are rectangles and then that rectangle and square are synonymous terms They're just aren't. Likewise although God is good, God is so much more good, for instance God God is love and love is much more than just being good.
"Only God is good", is a quote attributed to Jesus. Square and rectangle are not synonymous terms, however God and good are.
Another way to say this is God is the only true measure of good. The term sin means to miss the sign. A secular equivalent would be, sin is an error in perception. Many would suggest that sin is an "evil" act, but the acts we might call sin, are the natural response to what we consider to be our way toward satisfaction. We are devotional by nature consistently seeking our "good". We warm to pleasure and shrink from pain. The wages of sin are death. There is physical death, a secular phenomena, and there is spiritual death, disappointment. Disappointment arises from seeking your good where it cannot be found.
There is a time and a place for everything. A sickness is normal and healthy reaction to contagion. A life form of itself can be a contagion to another. Suffering is the spiritual form of the secular expression, friction. We would have no criminals if not for crimes we invent and there would be no wars if there were no sin, or errors in perception.
Yes it is, very good. No they are not, also very good. Aaaaatttttt, bad answer. As was pointed out, I guess you missed it, God is much more than good, God is merciful, just, wise, kind and that is not even to mention Love, which is what the Bible says God IS.
They are normal reactions, but I don't believe that illnesses teaches us anything other than being sick sucks and that we should avoid it It's like when people tell me that I should go to a party and get drunk because it's an important experience for young men. And every time I encounter that, I just end up thinking, "Malaria is also an experience, doesn't mean I should have malaria" Yup, what's beneficial for one creature is not for another. One man's garbage is another man's treasure, in the form of contagions at least. I think that's silly. I'll reuse what I said about Malaria and apply it here. Having the flu sucks. No one invents that it sucks, it just sucks. Yup
Helpful is a matter of timing. Infection is essential in the development of the immune system. If you want to regard it that way, having a body itself is the ultimate insult. My take is that nothing is uncommon to man and no form of suffering is special. I would never suggest that somebody take on some circumstance so that they could be familiar with a particular form of suffering. There is no crime that at it's root is not a property crime. Crimes against persons are perceived violations of "personal" space. Do not build for yourself treasures on earth which moth and rust do corrupt and destroy. Men are not the authors of harm. If we stop creating crimes, criminals will become extinct. Our lives are cultivated.
This is true by definition, but I see no point in saying it. Regardless of whether you call it crime people will always go on killing, raping, coercing, and exploiting, and suffering will always result from such actions. I agree with def zeppelin that good is not everywhere. I think good is in fact extremely rare throughout the struggle for life.
Mans inhumanity to man and his disappointments in himself are the result of an "authority" problem. An error in perception, an error in identification, an error in reading the sign.
Is it good that salt is soluble in water to a certain density? We are energy, chemicals and joules, what is good for these things is good for us. What you say may be true as far as raping and the like and I would say certainly true for those who believe that their good can be found in those activities, but I would also say that this need not be, or there is no natural requirement that it unfold this way.
