so its great to know that there are astrologers in the forum! :hurray: how silly of me not to think that there would be, lol. where are all the astrologers at!? would you mind sharing with us a bit of your background: - how you got into it? - your focuses? - where you studied? - how long you have been practicing? - are there any signature interests in a chart that other astrologers might not share? thanks
I am a pagan and my teacher of 16 years who I am very close to, is now gone. He always used astrology. He especially was good at electional astrology, so everything we did was done at the right time. When I lost him I realized I was on my own and couldn't lean on him anymore. So I had to learn things on my own. I started like everyone else with the popular books out there, and then I stumbled upon a book from the 15th century that had planetary magic in it. I suddenly realized that the astrology that was being described in the book was very different than what almost everyone today is doing - certainly different than any book I have seen. In my research I found that what the book was describing was really what astrology was until the modern era and the more I dug the more I was convinced I was on to something. I then discovered that there is a nice-sized underground of astrologers trying to revive the original systems. I was hooked! I'm still very much new at this. I know magic, but astrological knowledge is only about a year old for me. I have been reading constantly for that time, and I found a teacher who does classes in all the disciplines I want. I am just getting money together at this point. My goal is to be able to go natal charts in about 6 months and horary 6 months after that, and then electional. As far as signatures, for now it has to be the essential dignities. I have only scratched the surface here, but what little I know has opened the charts far more than I expected. What fascinates me about classical astrology is that there are far more layers than modern. It opened my eyes that's for sure.
I caught my mom reading a pulp pop astrology magazine and I was skeptical. I saw an ad in the mag for a birth chart and bought one thinking it would be bunk. I was so impressed that I have studyed any way I can ever since. I now consider myself to have enough knowledge to do readings. You don't need to be certified to practice, but there is a code of ethics. I was drawn to mythology since I was little. I have always read about Greek mythology. Signs are everywhere, like omens. The book,"The Golden Bough" is a good way to get into myth and magic, even if you don't read the whole thing.
