Someone brought up recently that he thought - at 28 - I was too old to be taking drugs...

So! With that as a starting point... what ages do YOU think people should be taking them at?

Personally, I think people should be allowed to do whatever they want at any point in their lives as long as they're not hurting anyone :)

If they enjoy it, have at it! Live and let live, do what you love, screw the haters!

Raja Ram is 71 and still takes them AFAIK! If so I think that's awesome!

So yeah erm, what do you think? :D

From 18ish to death. But people probably shouldn't take the kind'f drugs that will lead them to their death.

Technically, it should be 22-25ish, when the brain is fully developed, but there are teens that really need something to help them put up with all the bullshit our society has made reality into.

i have heard people say that is what college is for. although it annoys me just a bit when someone says your too old for a drug...what makes your drug more age appropriate than my drug? just venting but yeah 18-23 but nothing wrong with a responsible functioning recreational drug user of any adult age.

I think I also see them as a mind expanding and liberating and not-to-be-missed experience. Like being at a theme park and wanting to go on the big rollercoaster and someone saying "Nah, you're too old for rollercoasters!" or never going to see a movie again or something xD

I also see it as a way of being more connected to nature and enjoying everything that nature has to offer more. The healing properties and the recreational properties. To put ages on an entire world view like that seems totally foreign to me.

EDIT -- Additionally, shall we go and tell the Native Americans that they're too old to do it? ahaha ^_^

As a parent who is not anti drug, this is a question that's been on my mind a lot lately. Ideally, I think around 18 is an ok age to responsibly start exploring. I don't think there's a age limit on recreational drug use. I do however, thing drug abuse at any age is not ok, but it's not my place to judge and everyone must make their own choices.

Yeah, ideally one should start once the brain is fully developed but it's too damn interesting and fun if you have the urge as a teen to wait. The thing is, when you are experimenting with some drugs as a teen it is not so bad at all in most cases. But when you start smoking weed every week from age 14 or something it could make a negative influence.

Funny thing is... even when I WAS about 21-23, I still loved the fact that I could go to hippy gatherings and see everyone there from 17-50 or beyond! That's one of my favourite things about the hippy subculture :)

    Freedom, baby!

I never touched any drugs until I was 21. Also, I always think people's reactions are funny when they find out ecstasy was my first drug, rather than the standard marijuana.

I was one of those 'cool kids' who liked to smoke as often as he could around age 16. With hindsight it was better to use a bit more moderation (but still it could have worked out far worse). I have both an extreme good example of a guy who smoked far more and from an earlier age than me but stopped smoking as much and became an amazing succesful developer with Flash software... and a pretty bad example of a friend who has fucked up his whole life partly because he was such a dopehead in his teens. So it can go both ways, a bit moderation is still advised. But I can see why people wouldn't listen to me as I have not listened to people telling me the exact same thing when I was 16 :p

I totally agree! It's the difference between use and abuse I think.

Probably 18. I think you should have a mostly developed brain first. Not to mention a clear sense of responsibility. You should be able to truly understand the concept of overdose, the fact that you might need a positive environment before doing a drug, etc.

100% agree about the environment! They're supposed to be for fun, not "coping with life"

I don't think anybody here said that lol

I agree that drugs before 18 are a bit silly because it might be bad to tamper with a developing brain like that!

And sorry for the double post - this phone sucks xD

I played with alcohol and pot a little in teens. I didn't experiment with harder stuff until I was about 20

yeah, I mean one reason I'm getting more into it now is because it's fairly complicated and a bit "heavy". It takes a level of maturity and understanding to really know how and where to come at the whole thing!

Society is demonizing drugs and hiding them from people more and more.

I think it's more common in the States though and Canada than here in the UK.

Pot started at 11, tripping 13. That was my life and I enforced the same on the boys - but our house was also positive, family and education. Even if someone gets exposed young, it's about the buffers, guidance and support. I had time for the boys and standards of character I didn't let up on. Most of their little friends had kinda stupid assholes for parents and that, however prevalent, won't cut it. I don't think, act or choose for others. I look to my own and if I see a younger person making a mistake I don't just watch them get fooled and hurt. Life needs guys that can take the time and balls to try and be major dudes for othe dudes or we will run short of major dudes down the line ya know ~
