hello all as you may know i am 13 weeks pregnant and well since i have gotten pregnant i have been having this really bad back ache, its in my lower back just on the right side. i cant shift weight from my left leg to my right without having my back hurt, i cant lay down on my right side, also i cant even lay down on my back without being in pain. i have always had this back problem since i got pregnant with aiden and after i had him but the pain is now ten times worse. i have no idea what to do or how to handle this. sometimes the pain is so bad i want to cry. plus on top of all this i get major tension headaches or migraines. if any one could give a suggestion that would help i would be so happy.

oh yeah! totally had exactly the same trouble. my doctor gave me some pain meds for when it was totally debilitating, but being nauseated all the time made that sorta miserable, too. so i would put a warm pack on my sciatica, which is what your's sounds like. i would also lay on my back with my butt up against the wall and my legs leaning against it. surprisingly, that would actually stretch me out. when you're pregnant, your hormones start to loosen up the ligaments in your hips and lower back or something, causing a lot of pain. i also got one of those great big exercise balls to sit on, and i'd bounce on it gently. it was HEAVEN. i'd also use it for a chair. ibuprofen was my friend, too.

yeah, it's a bitch. it's normal, though, i don't know if that helps, but it helped me to know it's pretty common. try wamr baths and relaxing during the worst of it. but i know that when it got really really bad, hydrocodone or something like that is all that helped.

My mom told me that the only time she would get relief was when she would sit on the toilet - so maybe one of those donut cushions (ring seats) would help. I know that when I broke my tailbone the doctor told me a donut cushion would help take the stress off of my spine and help with my pain.

find a chiropractor who is skilled with treating pregnant women (not all of them are). Not only will it help your back problems, but also with the headaches most likely.

a chiropractor would have been nice when i was pregnant. but our insurance didn't cover that kind of work. and you'd be surprised and how much difference $20 can make when you're broke.

Well actually most Chiropractors will work ya into a payment plan, I had adjustments all during my pregnancy and BOY WAS IT WORTH IT! Actually, it's a lifestyle choice...

I hope that you find relief.

going to the chiropractor was even more worth it when both of my babies were transverse (laying sideways) near the end of my pregnancies. Simple adjustments and showing me pressure points got them to turn head down just in time to avoid the c/section lecture from my ob. We have really cruddy insurance, but chiropractic is covered, or it was, after I called and talked to the "supervisor" at the insurance company (don't ever take no for an answer, ask for their supervisor). Most insurance loves chiro, it saves them thousands in medications and surgery bills.

check on your kidney, too. simple infection feels like a back ache early on!

I'm surprised that doctors are prescribing heavy duty pain meds to a pregnant woman! My mom had the worst back pain, both while pregnant with me and after the fact...light exercise, swimming, massage and staying hydrated helped her alot.

I would have those kidneys checked...that is a good point...that is their domain in that area.
