yo i'm not sure how big to make my sections
i kinda like the sections of the dread in this guy's video

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CxJb9uwF5Nw

could you maybe give me an estimation on how to section it like that?
i guess that his are somewhere around 1 inch by 1 inch, but i am not sure

i also have another separate question,
my mom said she'd backcomb my hair,
but she doesn't know what pattern to make the sections in,
by this i do not mean where to part the hair,
i have already decided to part it down the middle,
what i mean is what pattern should the sections take on,
for example one could make a pattern that looks like bricks

    thanks so much

If you turn the sound off that vid and skip right to 2:58 he looks like he's crying. I don't really know why anyone would wanna imitate someone elses locks not being offensive or anything just trying to say that some people don't suit fatties and some don't suit skinnies. It's nigh impossible to say how to get dreads just like his. Just read around and see what type of dreads and method would suit you.

depends a lot on how densely populated a section of your scalp is with hair...
I have a friend who sectioned 1x1 inches and his are about the size of that guys... maybe a little smaller. Mine is sectioned the same dimensions and mine are a lot tinier with my thinner hair.

I'd say for average hair, his is probably 1 inch by one inch or maybe just a 'little' tiny bit bigger than that.

They look bigger than 1 x 1 inch. Doesn't seem like has very many, but then again, it all depends on how much hair you have and how thick the actual hair is.

I wouldn't think too much about the pattern if I were you, with the exception of parting choice... once the hair has grown and fuzzed back out a bit 'n' stuff, you'll realise it was a total waste of time and effort worrying about such a thing.
From my own experience, I really can't believe we dicked around for ages sectioning my hair in the first place... it took bloody ages, served no great purpose; we shoulda just grabbed a bit of hair, backcombed it, then grabbed another etc. Actually we probably shouldn't have backcombed at all, but that's another story. Hmm.
