Towards the end of last year I joined a new company in London. This year I decided that I would attempt to extend my barefooting to work as well - the 'last taboo'. I decided on the following plan to see if I could get away with it. Once it finally stopped raining and the weather started to warm up a little (usually late April / early May here in the UK) I started to walk to work (about 2 miles) barefoot. Just before I arrived at the office I slipped on a pair of thongs/flip flops so that, as I walked into the office, my coworkers would see me arrive 'shod'. I would then then kick off the flippys, leave them under my desk and walk around the office barefoot all day. This got them them used to seeing me barefoot. Then, at home time, I would slip the flippys back on and let my coworkers see me leave 'shod' before slipping them off again as soon as I was outside and enjoying a barefoot walk home. After a week or two of this little deception, I simply got up at hometime one day and walked out, leaving the flippys under the desk. The following morning I came into work barefoot and have been doing so ever since. The flippys are still under my desk and have not moved since mid May. The only person who has said anything was one coworker who I happened to arrive simultaneously with one morning. As I walked into the lift with her she noticed my bare feet and asked 'What have you done with your shoes ?' I just said 'There's no need for shoes in this nice weather' to which she answered 'I suppose not' and nothing more was said. A couple of weeks ago, I realised just how successful my strategy had been. I was at a leaving party and, for the first time for the better part of four months, I was actually wearing shoes (The plan for the evening was to go on to a nightclub. Unfortunately, I would NOT have been allowed in barefoot so had to resort to shoes - at least for a few hours). We were standing outside a bar when a girl dressed in hippy(ish) clothes walked past barefoot, no shoes in sight and with terrifically dirty soles (I was SO jealous !). The girl who's leaving party it was noticed her and said in a shocked tone: 'Look, she's barefoot !' I said: 'Nothing wrong with that' 'But look at how dirty her feet are getting !' I said: 'So what, it comes off in the shower' 'Wow' said my colleague 'You don't see that every day !' Errrr ....... Hello !!!!!
the uk is alot more open about things i guess, you even have nude beaches from what i hear.. in the usa, barefooting, well only like in beach areas. the rest is a little more un common. and only certain beaches are clothing or top free optional.
That's pretty funny. Sometimes people just don't get it. I wear my flops to work every day. I have them off for the majority of my shift. When I got hired full time, I asked my boss during the interview if I could keep wearing my flip flops. (I worked as a temp for a few months.) he said he's not a flip flop type of guy, and he didn't think it looked professional, but he then said: "But if that's how you're comfortable... fine." Every single time I see him first thing in the morning, he says "Good Morning" and immediately looks at my feet to see if I am wearing shoes, or flops. It's kinda funny. He never says anything though. He just gives me some hinting looks sometimes, as if he wishes I would wear business looking shoes.
i love taking my shoes off in laid back classes i have like spanish and science where i have easy going teaches...ahhh goddd i hate shoes
in canada... specialy in northern alberta... where i am from, people arn't really accepting to the whole barefootness...... but i am usualy barefoot anyways.. lately becuse its been kinda cold out i have been wearing my converse shoes.. but i also will tend to wear my flip flops to school and walk the halls with them and in my classes just slip them off, there are some realy "proper" administrative people who teach at my school and will complain if i am happening to be going barefoot.. and they will just send me to my locker to find soem foot wear.. thn i'l take of my shoes(like i said) in my classes.. the teachers are pritty easy going about it
