OK ... how do yall do it? Do you go around like a bunch of hunchbacks, watching every step you take, or do you just walk freely and get stung??

I would love to freely walk barefoot in the grass!! but ... for example: today I was walking out to the pool and I WAS watching where I was walking, because I knew there were bees on some clover buds.. and........ I STILL got stung. By one of those bigger black and yellow bees.

...The damn bee must have been UNDERthe grass...

Now my left foot is swollen and I cant walk on it... lol..

*sighs* ... so this is one of the woes of walking barefoot, I know. But is this something that yall deal with alot? Sometimes it just seems easier/carefree, to wear foot protection ... :(

Sorry to hear about your bee sting, of couse you don't necessarily have to be barefoot to get a sting down there. Years ago when walking my dog through some grass I got a sting on my foot when wearing flip flops. Thankfully it was only a baby bee so it really didn't hurt that much.

Yes, bee stings are a hazard of going barefoot. Has the swelling gone down any since getting stung?

ah thats true I guess ... Ive been bitten by a spider while wearing shoes.. it fell in and got stuck inside the edge of the shoe...

nope swelling is worse now than earlier... cant even wiggle my toes! lol
Its not too bad though. Ive definately had worse...I used to really swell bad when I was young. But Im sure the swelling will go down in the next day or so.

Just a big annoyance ... oh well ....

Sorry to hear about your sting. I’ve had it happen and it’s no fun. Your feet do get tough from going barefoot, but stings always seem to be able to penetrate them.

I've been attacked by bees on two occasions while parading around barefoot :& Ironically, both times I was indoors and the yellow jackets managed to find their way inside by entering through an open window  Hopefully, that was just a bit of bad luck you experienced and the bees will look the other way next time

Noic75... Im not going to let my feet get THAT tough .... hehe! I dont like having rough feet... I use a scrub/sanding thing on them to soften them... and lotion :)

cantgobarefootenough ... dang that sucks getting stung INSIDE! ......
haha I hope so ... I sort of felt bad for stepping on it ... lol ...
...... I seem to just be prone to the weirdest stuff happening to me.... been bitten and stung by spiders, ants, beetles, you name it.... bad thing is Im sensitive and prone to allergic reactions..... well anyways last night I took some benadryll because the swelling was getting so bad that is started traveling up my leg above my ankle ... its alot better now, though. just itching real bad! blah.

It does happen, but not often. As a gardening person, my hands are more at risk, because I sometimes accidentally close my hand around one while tending flowers. Only once really did I have a problem: a bald faced hornet stung me under my arch and the pain from that put me right down on my knees for a moment, whimpering like a child. Those things are horrible! Bees are mostly my pals.

I've only got stung from stepping on a bee once, long before I became a regular barefooter. I've been stung at other places more often, like when they became trapped in clothing or something, or when someone annoyed the bee or wasp by swatting at it. It's pretty rare I think... but if it's happened to you more often maybe you have a very low ground cover, like the clover, that they're on. Here they seem to be higher off the ground, not in the grass. And I'm lucky that I'm hardly sensitive to bee stings, the one I stepped on hurt a bit but it was over in minutes. So I'm not too observant where the bees may be :p

i used to get stung once every summer when i was younger, but i haven't been stung in a couple of years. but that's probably because i'm a loser and i stay inside in the summer cuz it's f'n hot. lol. bee stings only hurt for like a day or two and i think that one little discomfort is worth the amazing, lingering feeling of the soft grass.

I've been walking barefoot in the grass since I took my first steps as a toddler. I've only been stung by a bee maybe three times in my almost 28 years of life.

I don't worry about it to be honest!

Ouch, been there, it is a pain. Do not let the bee sting discourage you.

Hey, go ahead and just walk comfortably. Bees will sting you if they feel the need, whether you're barefoot or not.

When I was a kid, I had a bee go up my pants and sting my leg. I had shoes on then. I got only a small welt, but it's the whole point of it. Shoes don't protect us from much.

From my experience, if there are any bees/wasps/hornets, they tend to sting into other places of the body rather than feet. As far as it concerns barefooting, these beasts seem to be only very minor nuissance. Of course, it is more risky if a person is allergic to the stings.

I'm curious, have you been stung into the sole of the foot, or other place on the foot (top, ankle, toe etc). Are the bees/wasps/hornets able to puncture the skin of the soles?

i have had the unfortunate experience of being stung by bees/wasps on 6 times in my lifetime. i grew up in the rural south so i was always barefoot. on 2 occasions i was stung on my feet and a third occasion on my ankle. those are not the bad ones. let a wasp fly between your glasses (i have been wearing them since i was 4, i'm 45 now) the eye sting was the bad one. the leg and foot stings heal much quicker. a facial sting was a much longer healing process.

rob, an ankle sting is the worse. i was stung on the tops of my feet twice. those were totally insignificant compared to the ankle sting. the ankle sting took much longer to heal, because, or at least for me, the constant itching killed me.

There is a pear tree near the house where I live. At the end of summer, very ripe pears fall to ground and attract hordes of wasps. But I walk there barefoot anyway, because these insects are not interested in stinging anybody, they just suck the pear juice. I was stung only once, when I actually stepped on one of these pears, full of wasps. I was stung onto the outer edge of the sole, near instep. Although this area was somewhat callused, it was not as tough as heels or balls of the feet. I found the stinger stuck into the callus, and it did hurt a little bit, but it was gone in some 15 minutes. That's all of my experience with stinging insects.

I've had a few stings. Never thru my soles, but between my toes. Painful for a few minutes then a numbness set in which made it dificult to feel what my toes were doing. Almost like I had shoes on, very wierd indeed. Sand bees are never interested in me mostly it's the yellow jackets. I think some bees are attracted to scents, so avoid scented moisturizers and perfumes which may draw them to you. I've found many isects will leave me alone and persue the sweeter smelling folks wearing cologne or body spray.

Last summer my wife and I were walking on a grass trail and I was barefoot and she was wearing hiking sandals. In the process of walking a be got cought in between a strap and her foot and stung her. I told her if she was barefoot she probably would not have gotten stung!
