How often do you get compliments when you are barefooting?

Yesterday i was walking up the mountain/butte barefoot and this man that was running stopped to say "HEY!! I like your barefeet!" Atfirst i was like excuse me? I just wasn't sure i heard him correctly. Then he was saying how he really likes and respects that i was walkin it barefoot. Then he was asking me questions about my feet getting really tough and whatnot like he really seemed interested in it.

Then i chatted with the guy about why i like to be barefoot. It was really interesting.

I know that barefooters get critisized and asked stupid questions.. like "where are your shoes" or "Did you know you forgot your shoes?"
But have you ever got compliments or positively acknowledged about your barefeet before?

  2. One of my first times a woman saw me hiking in the woods and I saw her seeing me and I thot OH GOD she's gonna say something dumb but she said THAT'S REALLY NEAT and I'm like what a relief...

Last month I went for a barefoot run. A shod runner saw me and said 'Bare feet? Wow!' In an admiring way.

I get compliments about how cute my feet are or how much people like my toe ring (which I wear all the time...I'm sure I'm gunna lose the toe one of these days)

Ya.....I routinely get peoples' admiration for hiking barefoot....especially when I am covering a rocky trail like a deer, and when I am moving thru mud in a torrent of rain like it is dry when they are slipping and sliding in thier hard-soled boots.

In Barnes and Noble a young sales guy walking past scanned me, smiled and said awesome. Then he went on his way.

i,m scared to walk barefoot around my house, to many nails, tacks, broken glass, splinters, and some of the sharpest rocks known to mankind, along with the piles of dog shit if you would venture far enough.

I just moved to central oregon and people up here are way more barefoot friendly than down south!!!
Its amazing i can even go in pretty much every store except for costco barefoot and i get way more compliments and smiles about my barefeet than i have before!

i went from swamp to high desert so the ground is definatly way more rough here so i have to get my feeet used to it so i occasionally wear flip flops but im starting to beable to be barefoot almost alll the time now

I don't recall any compliments. Sometimes admiration i.e. I wish I could go all weather bare foot like you etc, etc. But hey, maybe it's the same thing :)

I too was out running and went past a guy horse riding. He spotted that i wasnt wearing any shoes and yelled out "hey cool man...barefoot runner!!". I have to confess i felt quite flattered!

None so far. While out hiking, I've gotten: "Are you barefoot?", "Doesn't that hurt?", "Aren't your feet cold?", "No shoes?", "So that must be you."

The latter comment was from a trail runner who came up behind me. Said he saw (my) footprints, but didn't think anyone would actually be doing such a thing.

A long time ago when it was common to see other barefooters on the streets I met two ex-girlfriends while we were both barefoot in Greenwich Village (NYC). I said to the last one "I see we like the same style and color shoes!" because we both had very black feet. Today you'd never see anyone barefoot on the streets, stores, etc.
