Hey, just wanted to point anyone who is on Facebook to the following page, where almost 2 million others have become fans of "Being Barefoot": http://www.************/barefooting It is likely that the majority of them are "fairweather" barefooters, in that it's not about living a barefoot lifestyle so much as it is that they dislike footwear. But hey, if we're looking to go more mainstream, these are the folks we could use on our side! At any rate, if you're on Facebook, it might be worth checking it out and becoming a fan!
Thank you Barefoot Matthew for adding the link, but I think the photos pale in comparison to Barefoot Guy's Myspace page. The photos on Facebook look like they were taken as part of an assignment. Unfortunately, it's just pictures of peoples feet and with the exception of a man hiking, none of the other photos appear to be connected to bodies. That just does nothing for me. I find even the comments pale in comparison to Hip Forums.Perhaps the page will improve over time.
So since it's not "extreme" barefooting we should dismiss it as amateurism? I know that even on here people have different degrees at which they go barefoot. And with Facebook's peak of popularity, it sounds like a good chance for barefooting to be visibile by the general public. And we all know the general public usually needs things to be watered down a little. In my opinion, that Facebook page might do a better job at diffusing a general liking for barefooting than insisting, as some people do here as well as on the SBL, that you're not a "real" barefooter unless your soles are messed up and you have cracked heels. That would be enough to drive away most people.
Dear barefootoctober, i've been a hardcore bf hiker for many years, and i definitely don't have messed up soles or cracked heels. Never heard of ped-eggs?
I'm a fan of that page as well, but my problem with it is all the stupid advertising that they stick on there, always trying to trick you into signing up for silly things on various websites. There's another being barefoot page which has far fewer fans, but at least just lets you get on with enjoying being barefoot. http://www.************/pages/being-barefoot/36578886593?ref=s Not to mention a substantial number of barefoot groups on there as well.

That would be enough to drive away most people.[/QUOTE] I don' think for one moment that having cracked heels or soles that are messed up makes one a "real" barefooter. As long as someone is comfortable strolling around unshod and doesn't fear what others are thinking, more then qualifies them as a "real" barefooter to me.
Sorry if it seemed that I was saying that all barefooters think like that. I am only saying that some do. And I believe that way of thinking and acting becomes a deterrent.
Alright, I was giving an extreme example. I guess it just confirms that being extreme doesn't work See how I got that to work to my advantage? ;-)
i once didnt wear shoes for about 7 months. it was really hard though cuz ppl would kick me out of stores and public places way to often. i then made a pare of fake sandels out of hemp. there were no bottoms it was just an ankle braclet that vonected to one of my toes haha it work some places... or the ppl just stopped caring
Thank you for the compliment. I must be fair and point out that all the images I posted on Hip Forums and MySpace are taken from the web or were sent to me. I can't take credit for taking any of those pictures. I posted the images that IMHO represent true barefooters like myself, not just those who slip off footwear on the grass, beach, etc.
That's why we go barefoot as variously often as we do...because it feels wonderful and adds a whole dimension to being human and actually (shudder!) enjoying one's body. Getting that "barefoot vibe" is awesome...a universe of never-ending sensation.
There are quite a few foot fetishists on the facebook barefoot page now. It's unfortunate since one of them even said on a pic of a guy's bare feet that it should be for females only (posting pics, I take it, but he really didn't say). I defended the poster of the pic, and we're friends now.
I've just left that page. Fed up with all the spam adverts posted every five minutes. There are plenty of other pages and groups on there.
Same here. It was very annoying. Not to mention the fact that a lot of people actually responded (positively, even) to the spam, which I think is just idiotic.
I agree that the advertising on that facebook barefooting page got out of hand. shame, but there are other groups I suppose
I do wonder where all those likes and comments came from though for even the most inane and nonsenical bollocks that got posted. There is probably a consortium of about 100 people trying to make it look more popular than it is to get other to jump on the bandwagon. I wouldn't mind if it was actually stuff related to going barefoot, but it really isn't - and most of it isn't even what it claimed to be - I clicked on one link and it turned out to be a site where you can PAY to download smileys of all things.
i couldn't get the link that barefoot matthew posted to work, but I am a member of two of the barefoot groups on facebook. One has over 2 million people. Granted, they may not all be "hard-core barefooters," but at least this shows that barefeet are more accepted than maybe some thought? I was really happy when I came across that group; there were even people on there I was friends with who I didn't know were into barefeet! Facebook is full of spam and ads, and all that icky stuff, but it's still a medium that I think we can use to our advantage in gaining more acceptance and/or knowledge about what barefooting is all about!
I'm a fan but yeah the groups on fb have too many spammers, i usually end up leaving them. what happened to groups where people actually post about things relevant to the topic? jeezz
