There was a great documentary / commentary programme by Peter Oborne on Channel 4 last night called "The dirty race for the Whitehouse". The way Republicans have tried to undermine the black vote is absolutely shocking. He played a radio advert that has been playing on "black" stations in poor areas where an African-American woman criticises Kerry's record on black issues. Designed purely and simply to disenfranchise traditionally Democratic voters by undermining their faith in the importance of voting and making them think they can't change anything - simply because this potentially robs votes from Kerry and does nothing to affect the number of votes Bush will get. Negative campaigning at its cynical worst. Needless to say the woman in question is a wealthy Republican and the advertising campaign was paid for by a wealthy white American Republican businessman...
