UGH! I know it's just for halloween, but it's breaking my heart to be using up so much beautiful fabric on such an ugly dress. Maybe it will look better once it's finished, or maybe I can wear it for halloween, and then figure out how to make it into something a bit less offensive to the eyes? (kids picked it out for me) I'm using silk sari fabric that is irridescent green and red, depending on how the light hits it, with gold paisley border, and it looks more like a clown outfit than a gypsy dress. Hate that ruffle at the neckline, I absolutely detest it! It wants to stick straight out, maybe I can add a row of fringe trim or something to make it lay down?
find yourself a beautiful gypsy dress.. beautiful gypsies like to look their best, even on halloween. you dont need one you hate! but a lovely green silk sari.. has potential for greatness. you deserve it.
I think I'll go ahead and finish it according to the pattern, then reconstruct the top part to not be so awful. I think the tiered skirt in this fabric will be great, and I can always detach it from the top and wear it with a pretty blouse instead. (or sell it to a friend of mine who bellydances)
lose the extra neck: just finish with one layer. It sounds like the fabric is stiffer/ heavier than the pattern...uh.. makers.. had in mind. the photo gets me.. REAL gypsies often (not always) have a code against women wearing red (connection to menstruation and uncleanliness)
mamaboogie, im sorry this has nothing to do with this topic, but that pic of your pumpkin is making me LAUGH MY TUSH OFF!!!!
i agree with drumminmama, lose the neck ruffle..... and maybe to avoid the gaudiness of it make it black, with red trim....i think it would be lovely that way
well, I had to finish it because I was unable to move on to any other projects. It's even more hideous than I thought it was going to be!! It's like the moomoo from hell. If I didn't look like a whale in it, I'd post a pic, just for your amusement.
