isnt it? & that is the main reason why somany incredibly beaitiful women still feel plain or ugly its sad
yeah, I saw that on TV the other day. It seemed odd, but at the same time, not unexpected. It makes me sick that this is what it being pushed on girls and women to look like and it's not even real. I personally find natural beauty MUCH more attractive. There's just something about a caked-up, mismatched artificial face I don't find attractive. Funny thing is that makeup and all that other shit that they adviertise that it supposed to "help," are actually WORSE for your face and make you age more. Just to sucker more women into buying their products, no doubt. Oh, God forbid, natural beauty, AHHHHHHHHHH, it's so ugly!:rolleyes5
isn't that part of the "campagne for real beauty" that Dove is doing? I think the ad is great... shows just how unreal the beauty we see in magazines is.
To those of you who replied that it's scary -- is that because you hadn't realized how much goes into those billboards before? Or did you not like the commercial? There is always issue that Dove sells beauty products, so in what ways are they complicit in creating the situation they're claiming they now want to fix? But, then, I don't know who their parent company is and what they sell -- to my knowledge, dove mostly sells shampoos and facial cleansers and whatnot (and of course bar soap), not makeup. But, I think it's pretty cool to emphasize how fake those images in magazines & billboards really are.
Yeah, I think it's actually kind of cool. Especially if they air it on TV, and perhaps the braindead masses will get the point as well. 'Bout time everyone realized that our "standard of beauty" is ridiculous. I'm glad my partner thinks makeup is the ugliest thing ever - I wouldn't wear it for anyone!
She wasn't so pretty on the billboard to be honest.. I could have looked ONLY at the end "product" and still thought that.. I'd much rather have the woman at the beginning as a friend OR a lover... No matter what you see for a minute in that clip, the end result is still manufactured, and that's just about the most repulsive thing a woman can change about herself.. And I've not even got started on the animals that suffer and die so she can have a good complexion!
Interesting, and yet, women all over the world still feel the pressure of looking like a billboard model, why? because the concept of 'beauty' is pushed down our throats so we buy their products... many times, i've felt so ugly when looking at ads (billboards, magazines, etc) because i'm so far from looking like one of their 'beautiful' models... sad isn't it?
I found it interesting that her eye colour changed. At the beginning she had a warm hazel pair of eyes and on the billboard she had a piercing multi-coloured pair of blue eyes. Fascinating.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gUsKIApTewQ Another one of their ads. I think I really like this "Campaign for real beauty" thing, at least if they take it seriously.... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oD5Hadlhr1M ^^And here's a spoof on the "evolution" one, that's actually kind of interesting as well...
I like those commercials. Whether or not anyone is going to listen to them is another thing. But it's still nice to have them there. I'll buy their stuff faster than I will with any of those other companies.
I think Dove is one of the first companies actually *taking* the step to encourage girls and women, which is a HUGE deal. Since the 1960s (and even before, only then they didn't use media *so* much), billions of dollars are spent every year on advertising to make women feel ugly, gross, worthless, and fat, so that they will have no choice but to turn to their products to fill the ever-growing void. So props to Dove, for taking the initial step to changing the world
I don't feel fat or unattractive because of ads. I have enough of my own perception to know what is reality and have for a long time. I want to be as beautiful as I can be, not as beautiful as someone on an ad can be. I have never compared myself to celebrities or even my extraoridinarily attractive friends. I feel like I got lucky with my face and I am pretty comftrable in my body these days. But it's a catch-22 because if I admit that beauty matters for me and that I think I am very attractive on the outside I get slammed on this site. I am glad I live in a city that embraces beauty and where it is normal to want to look your best and have a healthy body. I just don't see the point in wasting time complaining about the media and advertisers. I would rather go for a run, get my nails done or do something that makes me feel attractive instead of convincing myself that the rest of the world is fake and unattractive. Does this sound distorted? I know it does to a lot of people, especially those in other states, even men have complained. But personally I think my point of view is healthy and challenges me to continuously evolve myself, without discrediting the rest of society.
I'll side with Lynsey. The fact is, some people are ugly and just have to deal with it. If you're not, focusing on your looks might not be curing world hunger, but it isn't a particularly bad way to waste your time. This place has skewed values - everybody encouraging acid use yet discouraging excercise and haircuts.
