    Friends:

NO ONE should be ashamed of their sexuality, nor should they be ashamed of who they are.

That being said, in today's increasingly narrow-minded, homophobic MAGA society, how do you ((I'm adressing bi/gay men, here) manage to STILL be yourself, and STILL seek out other men for sex and/or companionship, without having to worry if Big "MAGA" Brother Is Watching You?

These days, you have to be VERY wary of "hooking up" with someone (especially if its your first time with this person),. not knowing just where he stands politically.

Does the current political climate (and, yes, it IS indeed frightening) now affect you personally, regarding you being honest and open about your sexuality, or do you find yourself becoming more "selective" and "cautious"?

These are VERY dark days for so many of us, for sure....all we can do is to hold our heads high, have pride in ourselves, and to retain our DIGNITY.

Does the current political climate now affect your being open to others about your sexuality?

I look forward to hearing the views and opinions of others, regarding this subject.

Peace, good luck, good fortune, good health, and great happiness to all here.........

i'm a very private person by nature so i don't wear my sexuality on my sleeve. i very much keep it to myself. so i'm not very worried about me personally. i'm much more worried about others who can't afford to be as private as i am about their sexuality or gender identity.

i also don't hook up with random guys often at all, so i'm also not very worried about one being a MAGA supporter. the chances of that are probably fairly low anyway.

Fuck no - the current political climate has no impact on my sexuality because... why the fuck should it? I grew up being bisexual in the 1960s and when that witch hunt we call homophobia was running rampant throughout the land, led by the uber-religious Moral Majority so putting distance between myself and those socioreligious homophobes was a must if, say, I didn't want to have to fight going to school and coming home and all because homosexuals were being so vilified, persecuted, and even killed.

What I learned from this is that all of this homophobic rhetoric cannot fuck with you if you don't let it fuck with you and if you're worried about political shit regarding sexuality, your focus is on the wrong goddamned thing. That fucker in the White House thinks that he can make America great again by going back to a time when America couldn't get its head out of its own ass and was caught up in Vietnam, all sorts of protests, and the Summer of Love/the Sexual Revolution where men and women all over the country were living by the words, "If it feels good, do it!"

And federal and state governments were doing their best to shut it all down and they couldn't and, in some quarters, um, yeah, if you can't beat them, join them. We knew back then that you cannot and should not ever stomp on someone's rights, both human and those afforded by the laws of our land but back then, the homophobes, racists, and bigots ruled the roost and shit was so bad that four of the men who would have shut all that shit down were assassinated... and this orange-haired fucker wants to take us back to those days?

Obviously, this fucker and those who follow him have failed to learn from history, i.e., you can try beating something to death with stupid-ass political bullshit but you cannot stop people from being whatever kind of sexual that floats their boat; politics cannot put the genie back in the bottle. No politician on the planet is going to tell me not to be bisexual. Been there. Heard this shit before. It changed nothing because I wasn't worried about it back then and I'm sure as fuck not worried about it today.

When it comes right down to it, bigotry (of any kind) is a deadly disease, which, sadly, still does not have a cure.

A homophobic/bisexual bigot is indeed ONE thing, when the individual is but your average "everyday John Doe next door".

However, when said bigot is the President of the United States, deadly venom is going to be spewed far and wide, sickening millions.

I'm now thinking of those gays/bisexuals residing in the "Bible Belt"; if they thought things were difficult and dangerous, prior to January, they are now witnessing but the tip of a disaster-wreaking icebirg............God help us all...................

Those fuckers can lose their minds all they want to and crank the homosexual witch hunt up to 20 - and I'm still going to be bisexual and there is nothing the fucking government and his administration can do about it. And since they can't, I'm not going to worry about their idiotic ranting and raving about something that no society on the planet has been able to eradicate. There's supposed to be separation of church and state - yet, we let the Old Testament biblical law and punishments get all mixed in with political decision and everyone there has forgotten that your personal opinions on something do not fucking matter and when you're representing Americas, you leave your personal thoughts, feelings, and opinions out of things.

Personal opinions are not the law of the land and should never be and politicians have forgotten this, too.

    In TOTAL agreement with you.

Sadly, the current administration seems to forget the following:

"......life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness........"

"....a government OF the PEOPLE, BY the PEOPLE, and FOR the PEOPLE......."

This is just as screwed up as the ultra self-righteous "Holy Rollers" re-writing the Bible to co-incide their own bigoted, narrow-minded, fucked-up views...........

.....think of that fateful night in 1912, when the TITANIC was rapidly disappearing beneath the frigid surface of the hostile North Atlantic, thousands of people still aboard,. all lifeboats long gone, everyone still on board facing a certain a horrific end.

Now, think of the United States of America as the Titanic, on that frightening night in 1912, sinking further and further down into the depths of deceit, dishonesty, bigotry, and thinly-disguised dictatorship........sadly, all lifeboats for us have long since been cast off................

So far, the biggest bummer for me is the grief over the death of representative democracy, the sadness of the realization of just how many of my friends and neighbors can't be trusted, and the deep foreboding of what history suggests is about to happen.

I'm currently in the second Gayest place I've ever been; St. Pete, FL (#1: San Francisco in the 70's). In the rural virulently MAGA county I came from, there was always this oppressive cloud of constantly being hypervigilant and very circumspect of what you say, how you say it, who you say it to, and who might overhear you. I knew several people who were terrified that their neighbors and coworkers might find out that they're secretly Democrats, much less Gay. Here it feels like a tremendous weight has fallen away, the sun has emerged from the clouds, and I can breathe.
Perhaps I'll just stay here, and perhaps that's the answer; complete the Balkanization they started, and migrate to relatively safe and nurturing enclaves of like-minded folk and leave the MAGA cult to the violent darkness they've so enthusiastically embraced.
And yet, history is replete with examples of how well that approach has played out in the long term for our predecessors as well...but perhaps some respite is better than none at all.

FYI, San Franscisco is still #1. The way I see it, if there are some MAGA idiots running around my hometown - and there probably are - unless any of them know that I'm bisexual, I don't see what the problem is and, as such, I'm not going to worry about. If one of them did know, that means that they know me... and that I'm not the one you want to be fucking with especially if you think being a MAGA cultist gives you the right to stick your nose in my sexual and sexuality business and then I can guarantee you that Trump isn't going to help you.

And, um, how many MAGA cultists aren't really all that straight, hmm?

....too bad that our current "leader" seems to have conveniently what the REAL America is all about......

"....life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiess.............."

Far too many echoes of the terrifying days of the Third Reich these days (just look at the many hundreds of cowardly anti-Semetic attacks against Jews, over the past several years)

    Sad and sickening.

To discrimate against ANYONE based on their sexual orientation is just as evil and as narrow-minded as discriminating against a person because of their race, religion, or skin color.

Sadly, FAR TOO MANY people NEVER seem to learn, and it's the GOOD people that end up suffering.............

Political experts foretold what he was going to do if he got re-elected to the office; he tried to say that he didn't have anything to do with Project 2025 - then turned around and said that he did and that it would be his blueprint to help make America great again. Those experts who read it were appalled by it but kinda/sorta didn't believe that he was really going to consult this document to reform America... and that's exactly what he's doing.

And getting away with it. He is behaving like he's the king of America and his word - and his word only - is supposed to be law and he is abusing the fuck out of being able to write Executive Orders. His cult followers knew what he was going to do and flying Nazi flags at every opportunity and as if they would welcome a Fourth Reich. Because he's going after transgenders, that's making everyone who isn't straight paranoid and afraid... and I really want to know why. What's he gonna do - get his new Gestapo out on the streets of America and they're asking for people's papers to prove that they're heterosexual? If you're suspected of not being straight, you're looking at hard prison time and sentences handed down by hand-picked homophobic judges who are taking the law into their own hands because their lord and master is supposed to protect them - and if they don't, it'll be off with their heads?

Maybe it's because I grew up when the Moral Majority was beating non-heterosexuals over the head with their bibles and stupidly thinking there was a cure for homosexuality that none of this shit he's doing surprises - or bothers - me. When it comes to this idiot, I have more and better things to be worried about, i.e., him and Musk fucking with my Social Security and Medicare..

Musk is naught but a demented, off-the-wall troll, the "big man's" lackey (this man has SERIOUS issues); like his demented, orange-headed Lord and Master, he is hell-bent on tearing this country apart, and dividing us still further.

A friend of mine from upstate New York told me that his daughter (who had been living outside of Atlanta for several years) relocated elsewhere, as her general area was literally overrun with Trump's mindless legions of rabid, boot-licking loyalists.

The last few years my mother was alive (she was 99 and house (room) bound when she passed in 2016) she continually worried about her medical insurance, and what the future might hold.

Sad to say, I'm grateful she is no longer here today.

Regarding Trump, what really terrifies me is that so many of his "MAGA" followers are raising their kids to be just as loyal to "Their King"..........imagine these poor, brainwashed kids when they become adults?

    God help us all......................

    Thankfully, no.

However, as her hearing had gotten pretty bad, I was doing all the "phone work", when there were issues regarding her coverage (to say Mom was on a FIXED income is indeed an understatement)

I talked to some pretty obnoxious people, trust me on that, to try to get her better coverage/benefits.

Last person I talked to (when I told them Mom was about to turn 99) told me that "I would be hearing from them shortly" (I told them to PLEASE do what they could)

That was nearly nine years ago, and I am STILL waiting to hear back from them (like it would do any good, now)........well, at least I tried my damndest to fight for what she should have received.

I cannot go further on this.....too many painful memories.

I'm only glad she is not here today, with everything so uncertain..........

I am mostly in the closet and live in a conservative area. I don’t think maga changed anything for me personally pre maga I did not see many positives to coming out and post maga it’s the same. It might also be that I’m bi so the pressures of coming out are probably different

Regarding my friend's daughter, even though she is straight, she and her husband were less and less enamored with where they living, given that their area was becoming more and more pro-Trump (they'd often had problems with their Biden posters being either ripped apart on their lawns or defaced, back in 2024)

Like her dad (and herself), her husband is also a liberal Democrat, and didn't want to see what their kids might be subject to, when they were old enough to attend local school.

I believe they are moving out to the West Coast..............

I've heard some pretty unsettling stories coming out of California; no, my friend's daughter and her family are moving to a suburb outside of Seattle, where her sister and her family also live.

Yeah, California is getting pretty nasty, to say the least............
