being green Vs. being a hippy

so why is it suddenly cool to be green and people still rag on hippies? hippies have been trying to do, what the "green" are claiming as there ideas, for years now!

 

Not all hippies. Oh and the 'green' folks still shower...but only with green products.

Being green is just a consumer-marketing ploy you only have to be a consumer and buy things that are labeled “green”.

It also helps if you drive a new Subaru or one of the newer hybrid cars.

 

Sounds like a good episode for Celebrity Deathmatch (the show where claymation celebrities beat the heck out of each other in the boxing ring). Get a newage green icon and match them up with an old hippie from the 60s and see what happens.

People rag on hippies cause we are an image of what society should be, not what it is. Green fits in with modern society and causes no turmoil between the masses and Big Brother. While one is seen as a threat to modern 'democracy' the other is seen as a mindless herd of consumers that can still be controlled and subverted to the cause of the Establishment.

 

actually, statements like THAT ONE are the reason we rag on hippies. talk about holier-than-thou. it's like listening to someone from the FLDS.

 

There is nothing about what I said that makes it a holier than tho statement KC. Society as it is, is a corrupt facist place here in the U.S.
Many of us hippies portray the side of society that would bring so much better to the U.S. not to mention the world. I don't feel any higher or better than you or anyone else, I just wish that people could resolve their differences and join us in our dream.

You're trying to tell me that you don't want world peace? That you don't want famine, war, racism, and many other horrid things in modern society to be taken out? I can't comprehend how people can enjoy things like that in their lives. Our brothers an' sisters are dieing every day senselessly over in Iraq, for a cause that has long been gone from the American mindset. I want to see a world were people thrive together not thrive on being against each other.... Perhaps that dream is too large for some to comprehend.

it's all pretty silly. though there's a HUGE increase in recycling and people living cleaner. seems a simple enough thing to NOT shit where you eat.

 

Striving for world peace is not communist. ANd for that matter communism in its essence was not a bad thing. Corrupt leaders (much like the ones we have in the U.S. today) turned it bad. Communism cannot work with only one man striving for power over all others. Cages? Being able to call an end to war and live together in peace is not cages. What insanity is that?? Freedom from suffering, freedom from violence. If that is what you call a cage then I suppose me an' half the rest of the world are living in them now. I live my life intune with what could be not what is. I want world peace, why don't you??

 

yeah, it takes all sorts. can anyone here see me turning into anything other than what i am to suit someone else's ideal of what the world is supposed to be? it's not all hippies that grate on the nerves, it's the "recruiters." it's like having the mormons or jehovah's witnesses showing up at your door.
