I am getting PC speakers for my birthday soon. I have somewhere around 100-150 bucks. I like my music loud and clear. What are recommendations? TIA
I run my audio through my stereo reciever and use a pair of Sony 100 watt speakers that will rock the house if I turn the volume up to half way.
I use a pair of Harman Kardon HK19 computer speakers. I found 3 pairs of these so far in thrift stores for $2-3 a pair. I grab them off the shelves of junk bins every time I see them. Very nice sounding speakers but not too loud. I also have an independent 10" subwoofer running from 200 watt fisher amp with lowpass filter that I switch on when I want to really feel the music. All components salvaged from thrift stores, aprox $10 total for $500 worth of sound.
I don't know if Creative's tech support is still set up the way it was back around 1.5 years ago but if it is I would try and not buy anything from Creative. I once purchased an external speaker for my laptop that Creative manufactured. When I got home and read Creative's literature I discovered they did not have a telephone number for a customer to call when a customer needed needed tech support/customer service. And that's a huge indiscretion in my book. In the literature they provided Creative mentioned something about winning some sort of an "award" for customer service and to me that claim looks a little dubious. Look, you can only fix problems that are considered "quick fixes" via email but if your problem constitutes a medium or large sized problem then trying to troubleshoot it and fix it in many cases will be a very frustrating experience not to mention impossible task to accomplish via email. Creative never did state who the "award" came from. So if you're consumer savvy stay away from cpm's like Creative (cpm=computerproductmanufacturer). As for speakers check out the Logitech Z5500's, lots of reviews on those little speakers at Amazon, and good reviews, at that. I'm not sure if Logitech still makes them or not as I bought mine a couple of years ago but if they do go read the reviews cause there are a lot of 'em to read and they'll help you decide.
Klipsch and altec lansings are good. for $150 you should be able to get a nice set of Klipsch speakers. my altecs i got in the mid 90s and they're still going strong!
