I would have to say that although Jimi Hendrix was a very close second, my favorite is Joe Cocker. My reason for picking Joe and his band being my favorite, is that his performance was foretold of in the Bible and in one of the Dead Sea Scrolls(discovered near the Dead Sea in 1947). You don't believe me? Do you think that I have had some bad weed? NO! I have never touched the crap. You can see and hear proof at my personal, not-for-money website, Woodstock and Dead Sea Scroll Connections. You can also review my past posts here at hipforums for more details.
I'm an athiest so I enjoyed Janis, Jimi, Crosby Stills and Nash, and Jefferson Airplane the best. Although Joe Cocker is def. up there too. (not having to do with the dead sea scrolls or whatever of course.)
I loved Ten Years After with "I'm going home". One of the best live performances ever, in my opinion.
i wasnt there......... haha but i have to say jimi hendrix... not necessarily because of his music.. but the way everyone in the jimi hendrix expirience took life as it came at that time.. it was just amazing to me how people could love sooooooooo much and be so happy and just know how to live life some people dont think that exists still... but i do
love that song!!! My top has to be soul sacrifice.. that song always sends me into like a primative jam out seshion haha its great. i could only imagine what it would be like to be in the crowd for that song, mike shrieves drum solo was sick too.. johnny winter was sick, hendrix, jefferson airplane (uncle sams blues) ahh its all so great!!
I love hendrix, janis, and airplane - but for this one gig my fave performance is Richie Havens. He puts so much heart into his time onstage and lets it all hang out as the first act to go on. Just him and his acoustic guitar, and a half million or so of his closest friends! Everyone is so nervous at the start of the show, and Richie turns it into such a positive message by the time hes done. I like Hendrix, but always feel sorry for Juma Sultan, the poor guy tryin to keep up with Jimis band while playing congos. Janis had a great set for woodstock, and seemed to challenge herself and her group with the songs she chose for that performance. Airplane had a strange time slot, but always seems to pull out a great sound live. This is one gig that it is really hard to choose one performer from!
