Ok so I posted about this a while ago and CBA to find the thread SO heres a new one..

BECAUSE its gotten worse... before it was little strands at the ends of like one or two dreads, now its HUGE amounts in about half an inch of probably 5 or 6 dreads!!!

    :O:O:O

My surroundings are pretty dusty, and I can't really help that..

Will a bi carb wash get rid of it all?

Is it like it's all just in the backcombed core, e.g. the five or six hairs that are left after you've backcombed everything else up them?

Yea I think so, well.. the hair left after the end has bunted itself or I've blunted it, I'd usually cut it out, take all the hairs out and be left with lint like pocket lint... And theres one or two where its in the whole of the bottom of the dread. I wanna cut one open but I couldn't bare to slash one of my dreads :p

Have you tried just pulling at it a bit, like with tweezers or something?

does it smell funny at all? I've never seen it but it does look a bit like it could be mold or something, especially since you mentioned it "growing"... hopefully it's something totally opposite! Try putting some tea tree oil in your rinse?

What do you wash your hair with? And the dreaded question! Did you ever use wax...?

I had mould that looked EXACTLY like your's Dragonvine. I think a bi-carb wash will do wonders for it. I used Bronner's tea tree soap to get rid of mine because I just CBA making my own rinse.

Ohhh I hope it isn't mould!! It doesn't smell so phew.

I wash with DrB's once or twice a week :) And yea I did use wax a couple of times, once someone caked it on so it may just be that and the dust that collected on it passing through the dread?

It was very cakey... was discusting 0.o And I'm sure there was looooads of dust making its home ontop of my cakey waxy dreads... but that was months ago!!

I tried the bicarb wash and I don't think any of it has gone away :(

I'm only asking because it looks very similar to what I found in my dreads. It was more noticeable when it was wet. I am now assuming it is/was either wax or shampoo residue tied up with dust and anything else that got caught in there. Anyway it's difficult to get out, I tried using tweezers as well, of course it ripped out hairs with it as well, but I guess I wasn't too bothered by that....

Cool :) As I said when I cut a bit out and pull all the hairs out so im left with the black stuff, it looks exactly like pocket lint, feels waxy and doesnt smell... So I don't think its mould, But thanks :)

Merrivale, has your linty stuff all gone now?

if yas had a ton of wax like ya said it could be just that.. dust and crap trapped in wax wax combined with heat luiquifies it so gravity draws the luiquified wax downwards towards the tips (where cooler air gets at it so it solidifies again)

just as an experiment try this.. soak the dread tips in very hot warter bioling almostvery carefully for several minutes each rthen squeeze out any gunk u can

    this will do 2 things
melt wax if it is wax.. and.. should kill any living mold of it is mold

if its mold u still might be left with dead mold in there but at least it will be dewsd and not spreading

when 1 1srt saw it it looked like moldy dusty wax and i think wax is the primary issue here
bicarb alone wont really get wax out
u gotta add heat (excessive heat) and a disolving agent like orange oil or.. a soap like a hell of alot of dish soap..
a whole lotta soap wwill remiove a lil bit of wax so use alot over and ovber and scrub klike crazy..
u gotta get it outta the core so u gotta force the soap through the dread squeezing it into the coure then wringijnhg it out again..over and over

I've got it too, it doesn't smell in the least bit and I can't feel any pain from it. If I don't look at it I can't see it and it's gradually disappearing, and basically I cared about it for maybe a week, about 2 months ago, and now I've stopped caring; me and my dreads are still fine and it's all good. I'm sure it's the dready equivalent of what's in the plughole, and given that the hairs are tightly and finely meshed around it, I wouldn't expect just a bicarb rinse to shift it.

I have it on the tips, trapped in some places between just three or four very tightly entwined hairs. I've done loads of hardcore washes, not specifically to remove it, but just because I like to do them now and then, including one time with boiling water. It's still there, getting further away from my scalp with each day's hair growth.

And yeh, basically, things are only a problem if you decide they're a problem. I decided this isn't a problem, so it's not. 'Tis a good philosophy to live by, give it a go :D
