I just had a guy stop by my apt when I was outside. He had gone to the salon and got dread perm and was using some kind of chemical wax, I think he said "lockafellow." Anyway, I just realized that I can advise any white person on how to start and maintain dreadies, but I was clueless when this guy asked me what he needed to do I did write down this website and give it to him. I told him to come post before he went back to that salon or spent another penny on products. I live in a dominantly black area and I have had multiple people ask me how I did it, but I realize that the things I would do to start my dreads are not the things a black person would need to do, or am I wrong? Any thoughts?
ommmmmm,I think so(wrong)haah.I mean coloured people usually have great coarse hair for dreads so it would be very easy to rip&twist/backcomb/some people just twist and rub.I'd say that type of hair would also dread gorgeouslyyy if done naturally.their hair was made for dreads!hope he comes on here though.pity he went to the salonpoor man
Their hair isn't THAT much different from caucasian hair, really. It seems to dread up faster though. I have tons of black friends with dreads that used all different methods, but I don't know a one that went to a salon. Just a cute story: I used to live next door to this Jamaican family. It was a single dad with two kids, a boy about three and a girl about 7. They all had natural (in my opinion) dreadies. They were loosely sectioned and backcombed at first, but nothing past that. They were all so freakin' adorable. (And yes, I did try my damndest to get in the dad's pants, but it never worked out. Darn.)
Lockafella , yep I was told to use that by some folks that live around here, they also have a dread butter that they swear by. First ingredient is petroleum...no thanks!
if they have a small fro im pretty sure all they have to do is twist it.... kid in my school does that, but he never grows them out.
many of the black freinds wioth dreadsi have grwew um since birth. a few did cut em once then restarted naturaly black hair dreads so freakin easily its rediculouse i woiuld never ever do anything but maybe twist em into secions then let em go to doi anything beyiond that makes no sence at all since the gechture and curliness of theyhre hair will lead to dreads at incredibly short lengths (1/8 inch to 1/4) they can literaly start with bald and have dread babies by the time the hairs 1/4 inch long with no effort at all, or at very most twisting whny would anyonbe go to a salon? and why a perm when the hairs so naturaly perfect for dreading?
