i'm not sure if this is better here...or the religious books forum but i figured it wouldn't hurt to try... what is a good book about Buddhism? i'm sure there's more than one, that's why i'm asking it on a forum so...yes?
The only book that I've read was recommended to me by Darrell Kitchen, a now-monk that used to be a regular on these forums (some of his posts are still stickied): What the Buddha Taught by Ralpola Wahula It's not a simpleton's book or a guide to the current state of religions affairs. Rather, it is a detailed and complex modern description of the most key philosophies which were taught by the Buddha, such as the Four Noble Truths, the Noble Eightfold Path, Dependent Origination, Dukkha, and other things. I found it most useful and interesting. =)
I would suggest "A Buddhist Bible" By Dwight Goddard. Its got a good collection of sutras and would help you out a lot.
