Looks like the big telecommunications companies are now censoring our communications and freedoms online, via email and phone.

Recently an abortion pro-choice organization tried to send a text message to its members who signed up for such messages. Verizon went ahead and CENSORED the messages, which never went anywhere.

They never even told anyone they were doing that, and relied upon some fine print in their user agreements that allows them to censor any communication anytime, for any reason, or NO REASON!

What people don't realize is that this type of CENSORSHIP is ongoing EVERYDAY by these two telecommunication carriers.

They've also recently revised their agreements to give themselves even more power over what can be transmitted over their lines.

They can now terminate your Internet access if they DON'T LIKE THE WEBSITES YOU VISIT! So if one day this site is put on some blacklist and you try to visit it, you might have your Internet access turned off right in front of your face!

    Read this:
    http://www.huffingtonpost.com/timothy-karr/whats-the-biggest-threat_b_66708.html

But what's EVEN worse, and far more OMNIOUS is the reality that if Pres. Bush (or his successor) decide to CENSOR liberal groups, or any organization they can do it on a moment's notice.

Indeed they can even block Internet access to whole groups of Americans if it chooses, or ALL Americans, and not even have to explain why. This is a very dangerous scenario for freedom, and apparently the Feds want these companies to have this power, as they now are compelled to cooperate with the gov't in security matters.

So if there was some kind of REVOLUTION to break out, against the gov't they could effectively stop all Internet traffic, cellphone traffic, etc. to undermine the actions of American citizens protecting their freedoms.

This is PRECISELY what just happened in Burma when the military junta cracked down on the Pro-democracy protests there. It is a FASCIST tool to deny communications to citizens.

So please let's Boycott AT&T and Verizon until they change their policies and protect free speech whether its by phone, Internet or otherwise...

Do it before it's TOO LATE! Get another service provider if you can. Otherwise you may never know when it's time for ACTION against the TYRANTS! And that day may be coming sooner than you think.

if those companies existed in the uk, i would definately boycott them... but as long as i'm not giving them money, i guess that's boycott by default! :D

Well, if it was as simple as getting another provider, I would. But you get charged up the butt for canceling out of a contract before it ends, simply money I do not have. so I'd have to wait it out with Verizon for at least another year.

I would prefer not to even have a cell phone to begin with, even.

As far as the internet, no worries. I don't use any dubious providers..

Then get rid of it when your contract is up. I got rid of mine several months ago and have found life much more peaceful without it.

Actually, if they changed your TERMS OF SERVICE at any time since you signed your contract, you can OPT-OUT legally of the changed contract. Check and see if they've made any changes since you signed up!

You might want to READ the terms of service too, so you can tell them precisely what it is you object to - esp. the parts I mentioned. Maybe they'll get the message (which is a joke, since they're stopping other ppl's messages!).

I think you can also terminate your contract based upon the news report - In protest of the fact that they censor ppls messages and have all these NEW powers over the content of your communications.

What is this world coming to? We are losing our liberties at an alarming rate. Luckily I use neither service providers mentioned so this will be an easy one for me to participate in. It does make me wonder about dropped calls and texts that sometimes I don't receive....hmmmm

It's funny because something like this happened to my 17 year old brother.

He signed up online to get sports broadcasts/photos/memorabilia sales sent as texts to his phone and verizon found them "inappropriate." He had a year subscription to this text service and he only used it for a month or so...

**DON'T EVER LET VERIZON TELL YOU THAT THEY CAN NOT RETRIEVE YOUR TEXT MESSAGES WHEN THEY OVER CHARGE YOU-THEY CAN!!!**

2 yr contracts are another thing that sucks with these companies. Where's the competition in forcing people into long term contracts? I guess that's how you get the phones so cheap. They're subsidized by the communications companies.

Dude, what's new? Net neutrality has been slipping away from us for ages Mostly in the states.

Soon with things like AT&T, you will on;y be able to view a select number of sites that have payed for the privilege like Cable TV!!!

I mean AT&T/Verizon have been treating their folks like shit for yeaaaaaaaaaaaars and It's time we take a stand...

AND WASN'T IT vERIZON THAT JUST RECENTLY CENSORED A LIVE-FEED PERFORMANCE OF PINK FLOYD???? Floyd is reported to have changed the lyrics of on of their hits to reflect upon and criticize the Bush Regime.... Anyway, they later apologized for the censorship and admitted it was an illegal violation of first amendment rights/freedom of speech rights etc.... Seems like the net backlash had Verizon scampering around to cover their reppressives asses........ Fuck Verizon!!!!

Thank you Skip. I had a feeling some of those wireless companies were going to start pulling crap like that. Guess I wish I was wrong sometimes.

thats messed up... gosh, I have Verizon. So far they've been good to me though, great customer service. but Im stuck on a contract too, need a cell phone to keep in touch with friends and work, and can't afford to get off and get any other provider. I don't have much to worry about though as far as innapropriate pics...
