NOTICE: EITHER READ THIS WHOLE POST OR DON'T BOTHER TO COMMENT!

    WE'RE TALKING ABOUT HIPPY.COM NOT HIPFORUMS.COM

It appears that Google is censoring hippy.com! We no longer come up in searches on their search engine. See this search for the word hippy:

    http://www.google.com/search?sourceid=navclient&ie=UTF-8&rls=GGLD,GGLD:2003-50,GGLD:en&q=hippy

Try searching with hippie or any other combination of search terms with the word hippy or hippie. We do not appear. This has been going on for two months now.

We used to come up #1 on almost all such searches. If you do a search specific to hippy.com you will come up with all our pages, but of course that defeats the purpose of having a search engine (if you know the domain already). Indeed it only proves google has these pages in its index but is refusing for some reason to show these pages and their links to their visitors.

    THIS IS CENSORSHIP!

Why would google do this? Well let's look at what happened in China. Google decided to play ball with the repressive Chinese government and censor any and all sites that the Chinese government doesn't want its people to view. This runs contrary to the spirit of the Internet and such censorship would be frowned upon in any other democratic country.

So it begs the question. Is Google now censoring American Internet sites as well? Especially those with a certain political mindset that the US government doesn't appreciate?

We have contacted them, and they have denied any censorship or sandboxing of our site. Yet they fail to explain why our pages no longer appear in searches.

We urge you to contact Google and ask them why Hippy.com is being censored on their search engine.

    Write: help@google.com

The owners of this site are currently considering legal action against Google unless they can provide an adequate explanation of why hippy.com does not appear in their search results anymore. In the meantime we urge people to BOYCOTT GOOGLE. Use other search engines for your Internet searches. There are many to choose from. If we can get a boycott started, stressing that Google is censoring free speech on the Internet, even in America, we might finally get some reaction.

Hmm. Search "Hippie forum" and happyhippy.com is #1 and we are #2. Search "Hip forum" and we are #1 and happyhippy is not on the first page.

Something odd here. Search "hippy" and you get a bunch of comercial sites (and wikipedia).

Step right up for a bus tour of the famous Haight Ashbury. Home of the hippies.

Sorry hiker, this thread is about HIPPY.COM, not HIPFORUMS.COM.

Hippy.com has been on the Internet for 10 years now, way before the hipforums

looks like hippy.com has a page rank of 6 out of 10.

    Could definitley be alot better!

    Could be alot worse.

Wonder why it has gotten so low.

Actually a page rank of 6 is very good. Which is why it's amazing hippy.com doesn't show up. The Drudge Report is only ranked 7 these days.

If you read my post, entering hippy.com in a search is not the point. If you know the site is hippy.com, why would you need a search engine?

It's the fact that "hippy", "hippie", and other relevant keywords do not bring up hippy.com.

We are being penalized or censored. That is the point.

search web hosting: the biggest web hosting forum isn't for a few pages.

New google rank is unusual... the previous version was much better.

The newer search engine versions have a far higher emphasis of linking & content.
Other sites with hippies have far more links in between them as well as content (images, text, etc) which counts for more in the newer pageranks.

Hippy.com is how I found t he hipforums, and I stumbled across hippy.com from google! They'll definitely be hearing from me, Skip!

Hell, people's myspace profiles are coming up before Hippy.com! In fact, i didn't even see hippy.com, i gave up after 10 pages...

here's what they got from me:

Just so everyone knows, help@google.com is just going to send you an email back saying to go to go here: http://www.google.com/support/ to submit your message, and they don't make it very clear how to get past the "troubleshooting" to where you can actually contact them. I ended up using the "How can I report poor quality search results?" link to get to a point where I could write them some kind of message (it's under "Unexpected Results" in the troubleshooting menu).

Apparently Hippy.com isn't the only liberal site subjected to Google censorship.

Here's an article from another online liberal opinion site that is being censored by Google.

    http://www.perrspectives.com/articles/art_gagorder01.htm

There are many more as I'm finding! And it's been going on for years.

Google has gotten real good at repressing Free Speech!

    BOYCOTT GOOGLE!
