Last night I got a Burger King veggie burger. It tasted awesome! Chunks of veggies in it. For fast food, I was happy.

    HOWEVER

I realized (after eating it) that they probably cook it on the same grill as the beef patties. What's your opinion on this?

yes, they do. i don't eat it because im sure the bread isn't vegan and they put mayonnaise on it? yea...

and it's just a morningstar farms burger they heat up. you can buy the patties in a grocery store

Who cares? It's not harming any animals if you eat a veggie burger cooked on the same grill. You're not contributing to anything.

Except a shitload of unnecessary plastic waste, a LOT of land clearing for domestic animals, and also for their stores...youre PAYING a company that slaughters en masse and are therefore supporting them...Burger King blatantly doesnt care. BUT if youre just veggie for health reasons, then good on you, and no, i think its ok meat was on the same grill

    Like me :)
    Well, at first at least.
I gave up meat one year ago April 06, for health reasons, because I noticed that I could not digest meat properly. I never could, my stomach would hurt for hours after eating any.
But I have to admit, as time goes by, I am starting to stand up for the animals too. I always felt bad for them, but not enough to actually make a differance. I guess I still dont, however, I wont contribute to companies who profit off of it, if I can :)

I ate a few veggie burgers before going gluten-free. I thought they were pretty good too! Gave me something to satisfy my ketchup cravings... especially since I'd order them with no mayo & extra ketchup ;)

I think I remember reading that the burger had egg in it - just in case that's a concern to you. And... I was able to ask them to microwave my veggie burger so it WASN'T cooked with the grease! Every BK I went to was willing to do so for me. :) Personally I wouldn't have worried so much, but I have a severe allergy to pork & couldn't have anything that might have been contaminated with bacon.

I totally understand, i have no gripe witht he health veggies...because i was one, once. A little 12 year old one...It was once id STOPPED eating meat and was distanced from it i could let my feelings concerning animal welfare and the environment intensify, until the whole thing came together and i realised i was vegan for all the valid, meaningful reasons

And i always felt heavy and horrible after meat eating, too

I really do feel bad for them, but I view animals and humans to be the same in the sense that they are living beings and should be left alone. But, like people die unjustly, animals do too, and I just accept that as reality. Not to say that it is right or should be allowed to happen, but at this point in my life it is not a main concern. I have my son to raise, and I am raising him vegetarian when he is with me (his mother however, is not) and I think that as long as I peronally dont consume the bodies of animals, that I am at least on the right path. Maybe someday I can give up milk and cheese to, and be compltely void of contributing to the profiting of meat, but for now, I lack the money, knowledge, and most importantly, time, to go all the way.
But like you said, we all learn and grown, and in due time we will do the right thing. I hope :&

Well the reason I didn't want it cooked on the same grill is because I didn't want any "meat juice" on my burger.

My vegetarianism isn't so much animal cruelty reasons (but that is of course a big part of it), more of not wanting "dirty" food

Burger King (and McDonalds, etc.) are in business to make money, and right now they do that by selling meat. You or I or a few thousand like us are not going to put them out of business by not buying burgers ... however, if we buy vegetarian foods from them then that's where the money will be, and that's what they'll sell. Give them useful feedback on their vegetarian products and quality will improve, talk other people into trying the better products, and then more and more people will buy them. Help make the Veggie Burger a better seller than the Whopper, and you will have actually contributed something.

In a consumer-driven society, putting your dollars to work is a lot more effective than preaching or bitching. Don't let the perfect be the enemy of the good.

I just checked on Burger King's website. According to them the burger has milk and eggs in it. The web site says that it is cooked in the microwave, not on the grill. It also says that the fries are cooked in a special fryer that is only for fries. I personally won't eat their veggie burger just because I thought it tasted terrible the one time I tried one. I prefer not to eat any fast food, but there are times when it is just easier. On those occasions I'll have a salad.

I saw something really strange while I was on their website though. The Angus Burger has fish in it. Why? I never heard of such a thing.

Or the UK uses a different burger? I have a friend who moved from England to the US, and he says he is amazed at all of the things that are packaged the same, under the same name & by the same company... but are NOTHING alike here!

Why do i ALWAYS get this? You make some really good points, which i hadnt considered in-depth...but WHY assume i am "bitching"...im so tired of this...i was putting forward my viewpoint, which actually in a way was correct information, depending on which angle youre looking from...it was NOT a personal attack, i wasnt doing the "holier than thou" thing, it was plain, simple, direct opinion giving, and im so sick of having to justify that. I did infact go on to say it may be a good thing depending on the OPs reasons for being veg...i just had forgot to mention your particular point, which doesnt make me a preacher

Probably your choice of words like "shitload of unnecessary plastic" and "slaughter en masse". It sounds like preaching/bitching, even if it isn't. Besides, if you "always get this", then a lot of other people are seeing your words that way, too. [IMG]

Im passionate. I dont think itd be a good idea to try and change that. Many people also see it for what it is. Some people have fire in their hearts. Doesnt mean i dont control it well

    Good for you :)
To me discussion is a hugely important part of activism; you need to share ideas and rally suppourt for a cause. Then those ideas can be put into practise.
Passionate is good too, we need to be motivated.

As it is we only see someone's thought in a specific context during a very short time. They don't know what kind of life we live beyond that, and that just maybe we are putting our currency to good use following these ideas through (see if you really knew me then you'd know I don't spend dollars in the first place).
So I wouldn't take it too personally.

    Anyway, back on topic ...

Last I checked* it was quorn or something like that. It is vegetarian society approved, but not vegan (as quorn is made with egg white).

Yes I can imagine, probably a bit disconcerting. I haven't lived in both countries so can't really compare.

*which was about two years ago, they might have changed it.

I agree that you shouldn't support fast food corporations at all because they are the king of factory farms basically (oh and they kill people too!) and its not supporting a good thing. But its good to know that if I'm on a road trip or something and the only vegetarian person and everyone wants to stop at Burger King, then I can at least get something. I got one there recently cuz it was the only place around and where my boyfriend decided to stop (which I pouted about for a long time but eventually just decided I had to eat something), its just a morningstar burger and it tasted fine. I avoid fast food places like the plague though for many reasons...
But yeah I agree I don't like meat juices on my food but we'll have that problem everywhere... And I'm usually too afraid to ask people to change their gloves. So I just try to take a deep breath and ignore it ugh!
