Okay, so I almost bought a '95 NSX but decided against it because it's only a two seater and is just too old... I have a '91 Firebird GTA but I'm dropping in a Chevy 455 (along with a Tremec T-56 Transmission) later this month and need another car because I'm going to be getting like 5 mpg (but hey, over 500hp is worth it right..?) and after talking with my bank I've narrowed my choice down to two different cars: '05 Evo9 MR or an '06 WRX STI. I've done the research on the specs and have test driven both cars and am leaning towards the Evo even though it's a little more expensive and with slightly less amenities than the STI because of its performance and appearance. I'm looking for feedback from owners or friends of owners of either car or anyone who has any knowledge of the two and would like to offer advice. Which would you choose?
It completly depends on where you live. I could drive a 99 civic with a 06 GTR in it. Winter well i want a truck thats has all that i need. Gas is a bitch, so is insurance. Always remember that. haha
quoted for the fucking truth. i'm a bigger fan of muscle cars more than tuner cars, but i did enjoy the one wrx i drove. i'm personally looking for a van that i can transform into the mystery machine. that's how i roll.
i hate subaru, dirty dirty cars. alternatively id say get a nissan s2000... but if no then the mitsubishi
Im kind of partial to the STI's. One buddy had a 05 WRX STI with turbo-back exhaust (minus the cat) and a K&N cone filter with a "cool" air intake (metal intake pipe pretty much). Another buddy had a 93 Ford Cobra, Trick Flow intake manifold, cams, bigger MAF, K&N panel filter, bigger injectors, full exhaust (minus cats) into flowmaster mufflers, 3.73 gears, and nitto street tires. (Im sure i'm forgetting some, he had quite a few small things done to it.) The STI got the Cobra by about 2 cars everytime from a 10 MPH roll to around 100-110. Cobra didn't have a chance from a dead stop obviously.....maybe with some slicks at the track......but those STI rip off the line its pretty crazy! But then again, thats turbo vs. non-turbo.....
I live in a part California where I don't really have to worry about the weather too much. You mean a Honda S2000? I need something with more than two seats. The only other cars I'm considering are an RX8, Celica GTS, and RSX Type S... and possibly an '02 Mustang Saleen w/SC (just so damn sexy)
yeah honda .... how silly of me =D celica is nice tho, rx 8 is k, but i hate the 7 one. but its your choice man =)
I had a buddy with a 540 wheel horse power (whp) Evo IX MR that he drove for a while now he has an 07 WRX STi. He liked the Evo for a bit but after a while he just got sick of the shitty ride quality. The seats were uncomfortable there was alot of rattles in the interior. The bumps were super harsh (Its not gonna be super smooth in either car, but the STi is noticeably smoother) Anyways he sold the EVO got his STi and is loving it. As for tuneability if you want to go that route I personally think the STi is the motor to go with. You are starting with a bigger motor (2.5L vs. 2.0L). This allows you to get more power out of the stock engine without over working it too much. Plus they have done wonders over at subary with the transmissions. The transmissions in the normal WRX usually were shitting the bed shortly after they see 350whp+ the STi 6spd has been proven to be reliable around 500whp or so.
I have an RSX-S and they are pretty great. I think though, that if I could have done it over, a WRX would have been the way to go, as they can do everything. Also, choosing a WRX over and Evo might be a better choice if you want durability. The new Evo's and WRX's are both great cars. RX8's are horrible from what I've heard. They're slower than the RSX-S and gas guzzlers, not to mention that rotary engines are far from convienient. If the NSX you were talking about was in good condition though, its definately a better buy. NSX's are unique sports cars and very durable. Like a daily driver supercar. Celica's are a joke in my opinion, more money than an RSX and slower. Celica's are vastly underpowered to be a "sporty coupe" if you ask me, and most of the real fast cars you listed would dwarf it in comparison. Mid-90's RX7's might be cool. I do know that RSX insurance is a bitch though. Also, I would have preferred RWD or AWD. I can't stand torque steer on my car and it feels limited in some ways. Hope that helps. Oh, also, you might want to check out BMW e36 series (95-99) M3's. those things handle great and if you can find one with low mileage will be a great performer on the track (Not straight line of course) only downside is that they cost a lot to fix, and many BMW owners are somewhat elitist.
Man my cousion had a 04 WRX. We hit the freeway and we are gone. They have fucking power and can drive in the snow. Very cool. The WRX is the only subabru that i can even stand. I have seen a few that look nice. Just gotta have the right mods. They can seat 5 people. hwehe
Thats the truth. I was at a BMW show at the bavarian autosport showroom in NH and some dude with a new Ford GT-500 pulls up and parks and people were just trash talking him to his face telling him to get his american junk out of there. Then some dude with a supercharged 540i challenged him to a race and the beamer got slaughtered by about 6-7 carlengths in a 20-120mph pull. Then the dude made up some BS about how he couldnt get traction and how his BMW would slaughter the ford any day of the week but wouldnt run the guy again when asked.
Right.. imo the STI is the way to go, when i drove the 06 STI it felt like just such a complete car with excellent interior and functionality, the EVO's interior felt much cheaper to me when i saw one being worked on at school one day i cant speak for the Evo's performance though I know a few people who drive STI's year round and love them, for a higher performance car that you can drive all year in almost any conditions id take the STI
yeah Michigan is fucked right now. my boss who has never fired anyone had to fire two people this month.
I totally agree with everything this guy said! BMW M3 fukin rock! I totally think digitalldj should look into one of those! As I know he is always in the market for a good deal! But ya.....i really agree with the fore mentioned post! - 42o -
Hmm, well definately a lot more STI fans... which probably explains why I see ten times as many STI's than EVO's. I ended up going with an '05 Evo IX MR, sorry STI fans... Here's a pic: (lambo doors ftw)
