I recently started going back to the gym with the rest of my high school football team, and its going great. Losing a bunch of fat and getting pretty swoll. But I need more results. Its something that takes time but I feel like I can be so much more at this point. My workout routine is pretty set in stone, as it is run by my coach. What I need are good supplements to take and a better diet. My diet feels good, but it feels lacking. I usually drink a protein shake in the morning, but not one of the super diesel protein +50 ones, just one thats well rounded. Then for lunch I have a ham sandwich at school, eat a veggie burger when I get home, and for dinner I'll have some kind of meat and a side.

For supplements however, I have no idea what to take. I don't want to take creatine, as I fear the long term effects and the weight gain when I stop taking it. I plan on taking some kind of protein supplement, but from there I have no idea. I don't want to take anything that has bad long term effects, and/or will have bad effects with stopped usage. Steroids and HGH are out of the question.

Keep in mind I'm trying to lose fat and gain muscle. I weigh about 250-260 right now, and I'm basically trying to turn into a very sexy man before college.

Protein shakes, bars, supplements all have too many calories to help you get the protein you need without the calories.

Eggs, Fish, Tuna Fish, Chicken, and turkey. Keep them simple. Watch the calories. Watch the fat content (red meat). You're trying to lose weight but not muscle. Get protein but not calories. I you want to go vegetarian-Setein, tofu, and if you look around there are some excellent fake vegetarian meats that in a sandwich you will never know the difference.

See thats the thing. I basically hate all kinds of fish, and the only way I'll eat tuna is if its slobbered in mayo, and mayo is horrible for you. How is pork?

eggs are great because they also contain most of the amino acids(what proteins are made of) for your body to build muscle.

this is what you need to be doing that you aren't doing already...

eating 3-5 hard boiled eggs in the morning with a bowl of oatmeal. i've heard sooo many bodbuilders and athletes swear by this. my version is 3 hardboiled eggs and a fruit smoothie; im an endurance athlete though and i dont need as much protein. a good breakfast is absolutely essential and you're not getting one with just a protein shake.

peanut butter on bread for a quick snack in between meals.

otherwise it seems you're eating well as long as you're getting some greens.

if you really want to be taking supplements then you could go three ways that i know...
amino acid powder or pills - will help build muscle by giving your body all essential amino acids. taken before and after workout and on rest days.(needs to be taken with proper amount of protein)
NOS powders/drinks(usually containing lots of caffeine)-a bodybuilder friend swears by it, but i dont get it because im not huge into pumping huge stacks of weights. apparently it increases oxygen in your muscles(correct me if im wrong) and allows you to do more sets or more reps. something like this should be cycled(one month on, one month off). someone jump in here, i'm not big into this.
protein powders-there is more than one kind. whey protein is good for pre-workout and post workout shakes. but for breakfast shake and before bed you want a shake that is high in casein protein(slow digesting) or a food that is high in casein protein(like eggs.)

there are other nutrition things you should know...
    alcohol breaks down muscle
    caffeine is an appetite suppresant
    ibuprofen slows recovery

ALWAYS STRETCH YOUR MUSCLES!!!! in the morning and post workout.

    cheers, have a nice day

Pork is all right-but it's hard to prepare-you need something easy-that you can cook and eat real quickly.

I used to work out with a guy who ate 7 cans of Tuna a day (this was before the problem with mercury poisoning in fish). Try albacore tuna-I get the Whole Foods or Trade Joes (they taste best-I've tried them all). Learn to like it on something. You can carry it in your bookbag with a can opener and throw it on anything. 1/2 a can per serving is great with pizza, a bagel, any sandwich.

If you are near a health food store try getting some Nayonaise- it's fake mayo-but it's good-and not too caloric.

A quick piece of chicken breast in the microwave with a little seasonings-is great (I don't eat meat-just fish). Fry up 3 eggs on a non-stick pan-throw some seasonings on.

Here ya go from a professional. Not a meathead but a dietician, at least I have been one in the past. The key to working out and loosing weight are a few things. I would want to ask you several more questions before I would really come up with a program that would be right for you but I can give you something close.

I am going to assume you are working out at least 5 times per week. That is fine, you don't need to work out everyday, this does not give your body enough time to form muscle properly. However, I am going to say the best thing you can do for your body is to strech first.

Now, let's talk about diet. Don't skimp on Breakfast. A shake is not going to get your metabolism going like a good meal first thing in the morning. You should wake up hungry. If you are really pumping it out and doing tons of activity that day then eat heavy protein like eggs and meat, if not then eat something light. It is essential to get your metabolisum going. Working out is a good start but eating 5 meals a day is the key. Breakfast, Lunch, afternoon snack, dinner and then night time snack. When you don't eat then your body goes into starvation mode and holds fat. Your lunch or afternoon snack can be a shake but otherwise it should be a meal. Your goal is to eat a big breakfast, then eat smaller meals throughout the day. The nightime snack about an hour before you go to bed, no less than 45 minutes is how you feed your body while you are sleeping. Could you imagine not eating for 8 hours straight. Same thing. Eat something low in acid. I personally like an english muffin with honey and butter. Your afternoon snack should be about an hour before you do any physical activity. Another thing is water and milk. Drink a ton, but there is such a think as too much. Juice is very high in sugars and is good for a game or something along those lines but otherwise it's just sugar you need to burn. No sodas, beer or wine. Lastly, fruit is very important as well. You should have fruit with almost every meal. At least one banana a day. Fruit is a good afternoon snack item.

If you have any more questions feel free to PM me. I may not practice what I preach but I can tell you the right things to do.

I am going with he wants advice from people he knows. However, a good thing to do is go to the fitness fourms. For me as an example, when I wanted to learn about smoking weed I came here. I can not fault this argument.

also, you're probably underestimating the value of cardiovascular workouts.

get on your bike. treadmill. track. elliptical. swimming pool. stairmaster(most calories burned in an hour)
do it up proper hard intensity and you will not only see loss of fat, you will gain muscle tone, speed on the field, improved circulation.

cardio is very very important for the chiseled abs and such.

I like to workout stoned. I don't realize how long I am working out and it helps with the burn and the pain. The key is to do it when you first get stoned and not later on when you are already lazy. Ride the High.

I am not a doctor and I do not recomend this for everyone!

Also for peanut butter, I've heard it helps raise your testosterone levels since it's high in monosaturated fat. If this is true or not I don't know

Thanks for the good advice. You see the problem with breakfast is I am a terrible morning person. I get up at 6:50 every day, have to be in school by 7:20. I think the problem is obvious. I'm late basically every day. Ever since I started first grade, waking up has always been a problem for me, therefor it leaves no time for breakfast. Also, I work out 5 days a week, Monday-Friday and I am considering adding Saturday into the schedule. Is that a good or bad idea?

My workout schedule is a percentage based one, based off maxes of power cleans, bench presses, and squats. We started at 50% of our max, doing 4 sets of 12 for everything up to 60 percent, and now we are at 65 doing 4 sets of 8 of the main workouts and 4 sets of 12 or 10 of the supplemental workouts.

Monday goes something like Bench press, plate raises, curls, tricep pushdowns, etc. with laps

Tuesday, deadlifts, leg extensions and curls, wall squats, and laps

Wednsday, squats, straight leg deadlifts, bunch of other bullshit I can't remember, laps

Thursday, same as Monday practically, a few workouts changed here and there, laps

Friday, Power cleans, power pulls, all whole body exercises, and then sprints.

Peanut butter is a great source of protein and the less processed the better. Trader Joe's FTW go Natural on the discription. Jiff and Skippy have added sugars and added transfatty acids that are there to preserve than provide nutritional substance, however to much of a good thing and all don't just eat peanut butter all day. Most of the peanut butter is fats so it's a good source of energy. Why I don't eat it at night.

Good lunch go like Elvis, Peanut butter and banana sadwich.

Ok, dude then you are just not that commited to making a difference. Get up at 6am and make yourself a breakfast. They say it is the most important meal of the day for a reason. I thought the whole idea about working out was to look and feel good. Well, you can't just do this half assed. You are making a lifestyle change. This is not something you can just do when you want to do it. After you are in shape you can adjust your intake and such but at this point, BREAKFAST!!!! Always important. Go big or go home. You might as well not even try.

Regarding working out 6 days a week? Meh, it would be better to take your break in the middle of the week but I understand you are in a program. Take Saturday off and do a nice jog or bikeride on Sunday. Streach first!!!
