    Women,
we have lost a great contribution - Susan Sontag. Whether or not you agreed with her or enjoyed your writing, it is a lost. I myself am finding it harder and harder to find women that are willing to challenge societies norms and change thew world. Living in the south - most are stepford wives who pack themselves into Walmart, believe whatever they hear on TV and are content to busy themselves with "beauty" magazines, pop out a few kids. Or they try to get into a job that makes them miserable to get a few high priced toys to prove themselves.
What we need is more women to be willing to change the world, challenge views on women - the neoconservative movement is busy trying to make sure we are silent.

Wow.. Yeah I know who she is. She wrote one of the text books I will be using this semester in school.. "On Photography". I'm looking forward to reading it. How do you know she died?

    Hi girls

I have often wished that us women could do more to contribute towards the world,we should be in power! I think everyone believes it is a "mans world"..NOT....it is everyone's world! ;)

Alot of women have done their share to hlep with world issues, like Mother Thersa,Princess Diana.i would do anything to ge out there and do something,i feel powerless at times that i can't (no such word as i cant but i said it!!!)

    I want to rescue animals in distress,stop slaughtering etc..........come on girls,lets unite!!!!!:D

    The BBC obituary is here.

What an amazing woman she was... her piece "On Camp" helped shape the way I experience the everyday modern world... it gave me a way to step back and experience things with warm amusement that would otherwise make me despair. Gah, that sounds so melodramatic, but I can't figure out a more low-key way to put it.

She was one of the few high profile Americans to truly look at the reasons behind the 9-11 attacks, to call us to accountability.

There are still many, many women who work to change the world. Amy Goodman, Barbara Erhenreich, Naomi Klein... the list goes on.

But this is, most definitely, a huge loss.
