just on, whether we are separate from god, or one and the same as god -
i was reading recently, a story about god's love of man, and man's love of god, this eternal desire for one another which cannot be fulfilled, the ultimate heartbreak, i suppose. as man hungers for god, so god longs for man, and the two lovers are eternally separate. maybe it was pseudo dionysius, sounds familiar. forgive me if i need to dry up. i'm a girl. :)

some philosopher who wrote under a false name. pretended to be a guy from the bible (dionysius the areopagite?) so that people would read his stuff. a common practice, then.

The struggle of yearning to reach these oft "hidden" goals can be very very difficult. But there is, in my experience, aways a question that is related and key that can be found and in some respect answered; but knowing this question, the nature of the actual question, is often a great relief.

It seems that answering key questions and knowing more about the nature of key questions dispells "pockets" of duality or "pockets" of separation. And it appears that many of these questions are not easily, if at all in certain instances, able to be expressed in 'words' but can be, implicit that they are, expressed in "other languages."

Whatever Jesus looked like he must have been one really heavy character.

What do you think about the healings in the 'Gospels' that we have access to today; have you ever heard of 'Q' or Quelle ? They are hypothetical sources for the Gospels, argued by some scholars as "implied," (largely)* devoid of resurection and healing.

    * it may be that the word "largely" should scratched, have to check this.

Supposed Quotes of Jesus from a Gnostic Gospel dating approx. 300AD. Note that the Gnostics where destroyed by the Catholic Church by about 400AD.

    The Gospel of Thomas

    5) "Come to know what is in front of you, and that which is hidden from you will become clear to you. For there is nothing hidden that will not become manifest."

    and,

    14) Jesus said to them: ‘If you fast, you will bring forth sin for yourselves.
And if you pray, you will be condemned. And if you give alms, you will do harm to your spirits. And if you go into any land and wander from place to place, (and) if they take you in, (then) eat what they will set before you. Heal the sick among them! For what goes into your mouth will not defile you. Rather, what comes out of your mouth will defile you."

(From the Gospel of Thomas, Nag Hammadi Library)

do you mean, do i believe the healings to be true? i can only say, 'i don't know', as i have no proof for such a claim. i have heard of Q, the source for information in Mt and Lk when not taken from mark. i don't know much else. for a non-christian, i do find biblical study very interesting and like learning more about that scholarship. i wonder how many non-believing biblical scholars there are out there? moreover, can an atheist or an agnostic become a theologian?

oh i love the nag hammadi library; i have several quotes from the gospel of thomas and philip in my journal.
"you saw the spirit, you became spirit. you saw christ, you became christ. you saw the father, you shall become the father. so in this place you see everything and do not see yourself, but in that place you do see yourself -and what you see you shall become." (gospel of philip)

To be a theologian, I believe, one could not be an atheist; but possibly an agnostic could ?

It is clear to me that much of the potential for these healings exist, and certainly there are explanations that could allow someone with very good yogic-like capabilities to survive horrible punishment. But I believe that there are deeply profound capabilites that are available to us and this man may very well have manifested some of these.

Amazing isn't it. The only odd thing that I have read in terms of the content is the last or next to last verse in Thomas, very odd. Wondering if it is a translation/context issue ? I believe that it is #114 or #112.

    It's #114, here it is:

    (114)
    (1) Simon Peter said to them: "Let Mary go away from us, for women are not worthy of life."
    (2) Jesus said: "Look, I will draw her in so as to make her male,
so that she too may become a living male spirit, similar to you."
    (3) (But I say to you): "Every woman who makes herself male will enter the kingdom of heaven."

it sounds like blatant sexism, really. there are parts of the bible which are wise, and good to read, and there are parts which are ignorant, and good to think on and criticise. likewise for the nag hammadi library, then. :)
