I can sing at two levels... soft pop-ish sounding stuff... then, I can sing at the janis joplin/all out baptist preacher sounding level. It depends on how you sing...
Being serious now, anyone can learn, being gifted only means a shorter learning process. Blessings Sebbi
i pretty sure anyone can learn...but some people are naturall gifted.... i think people who cannot sing naturally can be taught to sing to a certain extent...you may never be as good as a natural..but at least you could sound decent..
Sing along with your stereo, and don't be afraid to be loud... tho some people are naturally tone-deaf, and can never overcome that..
gotta practice a bunch. sing loud at home. then go and do it infront of strangers alot! go to some open mics or something, you have to work at it. i can sing like hank williams, bill monroe, jerry garcia, johnny cash, arlo guthrie, bob dylan, willie nelson, etc. but if i dont practice everyday i start to lose it, and its hard to get back.
Here is my understanding...it is advice from all my very musically inclined friends...they say sing along w/ good vocalists....some of the music u like may not have very good vocals... but simply singing along may not be enough...some people have bad singing habits..therefore u need more..like professional lessons...you should know the difference
Heh, screw it. Unless you're going to be the on American Idol, I'd take Bob Dylan's, Muddy Waters', or Stephen Stills' voice anyday...
Some people are naturally talented, others like me can still get far with a bit of practice. As long as you enjoy it and keep singing you'll get good. People who didn't have good voices when they started out were Bono, Neil Young, and Steven Tyler.
Singing on the phone to people does wonders too... sing to your friends, teachers, employers... just don't get fired.
you can't be afraid to sing, first of all. i sing in the car really loud. the louder i sing, the better i hear myself and the more sure i am of my pitch. i can't hit real high stuff without singing pretty loud. make sure you don't just sing in the car, because standing is soooooooo important to breathing and getting power out of your diaphragm. i've improved a lot over the last year or so thanks to singing along with Yes. practice singing bands that really blast out those staccato notes and then when you sing with Allmans, The Band, or anyone that sings with that homey, comfortable drawl, you'll be able to just pick your voice. of course, if you don't ever improve your voice, you can just sing loud fearless!
What pisses me off is that I hate singing around people because I can't experiment. They're always bothering you - "What are you doing?!?"
i have a few friends who are open enough to just belt out a note and we'll just drone on that and the group harmonizes and jams with it...you can hit bliss with a band, but a vocal jam is really easy to feel magic in.
its actually not that bad... at first it scares you shitless, and usually you screw up the first couple times.. but after a while its really fun. i love preforming in front of a crowd while singing
Yeah... I was frozen at first, but after a minute or so, it felt as if I had been doing that my entire life. I think the biggest thing for people to do, more than getting a "good" singing voice, is to get comfortable singing in public.
Yeah... when I first start singing, I'll be like "hmm... I gotta find my voice (thoughts)" so I'd start messing around till I got it. Of course, it's much more easier to sing as a quartet and all. That's what I do at the folk-grass jam I go to every year. There's usually four other people (upright acoustic bass, mandolin, fiddle, banjo and another guitar... I'm on harmonica, mandolin, banjo, and guitar... I just switch around from song to song usually, but mainly I'm guitar and harmonica at the same time) so we sing as a quintet.
