Can dreads snap?

Cause a friend of mine says they can. I can't believe it though.

I was essentially going to say something along the lines of what enjoy said, so roll your own sarcastic comment, don't forget to make references to tensile strength and neutron degenerate matter.

 

yes if your dreads are too heavy they can break off if the roots are very thin

yes dreads can snap. I don't know anyone personally who's had dreads snap but then again I only know about 3 people with dreads. It does make sense though, if you are bleaching your hair a lot/crotheting them or if you had shitty dry hair to start with that they would snap.

 

I've had a few tips break off recently.

Yes like Luxie mentioned, my friends snapped off because of bleaching to much. I mean not just a couple like her entire back, so she had to cut the rest off. It was a sad sad sight ...

 

i know someone who went out and got hers wet, and they froze and broke off!

 

Ahoy ... Rasta that I know back home view one's lifestyle as manifesting in one’s hair, so one’s locks can be used as a timeline of when one was healthy, when one was not healthy etc. So by looking at ones locks, one can get an indication of how good or bad one’s lifestyle is … weak areas reflect the not so good times … which includes not just diet, but stress too. Man, I’ve lived the same monotonous lifestyle for quite a while, so when I used to check my previous locks I never saw any difference.

Has anyone that has had changes in their lifestyle ever seen the changes reflected on their locks?

It should be noted that this used to be a big discussion on this forum because certain members claimed that if you crochet too much that your dreads will indeed fall of. However, I'm like luxie, I know only a few ppl that actually have dreads and this has never happened to them.

 

A friend of mine was telling me a story about this hippie girl he used to live with and she had this big flat dread and it broke off and then everyone else in the house used it to scrub the dishes... apparently they were into using everything.

My boyfriend just had one of his break off and now he's kinda depressed.

 

If theyre thin and caked up with a shitload of wax, and the wax dries hard, then yeah id say they could snap of
