I was just wondering if its possible to wait too long before switching to 12/12 light cycle to flower your plants? I understand that plants will only live for about a year, is this true even if you don't flower them? I ask because I have a couple of plants growing, they are about 10 months old now, if I don't make them flower soon is it possible that they would be too old to flower? Thanks a million for your help. Stiney.
If the plant is healthy it can't be "too old" to bud out. The only problems you'll encounter by waiting a long time: -The plant will more than double in height during the 1st 3 weeks of 12/12. A lot of beginners run out of vertical space. -The taller a plant is the further the lower branches are from the light source, meaning less potent buds. Experienced growers grow from clones and send the plants into flowering when they are short.
Thanks for the help Ranger, I don't need to worry about the lower branches being further away from the light source because I'm using the sun and I don't think four foot of distance is going to make much of a difference when theres already 150 million km of distance from the source. Is that really true that the plant will double in height? If thats the case I'll definately be out of verticle space soon, has anyone had to deal with this problem? And what did you do in the end to get around it? Once again tnx for any help with this. Stiney.
use LST!! Low stress training, that is how i keep my plants within the room...they will get very bushy though so make sure you have room to the sides
stiney, you're using the sun? Does this mean your'e growing outside? and if you're growing outside how would you change the cycle? Spring is upon us so the sun cycle will be getting longer, at least in my part of the world. I'd like to learn more about this.
Tnx I grw fire, any chance you could explain what low stress training is or link to something about it, never heard of it before. Naturalhi, its actually summer here not spring. But no I'm not growing outside, I think the weather would be too cold and erratic here even in summer, it can be 25 degrees C one day and 0 or 1 degrees C a couple of nights later, and it can go from having no rain for a week to having torenchal downpours for the following two weeks. I am growing indoors, I just leave the plant on my kitchen table beside the window and it gets all the sun it needs. To switch the cycle I just move it into a wardrope with ducktape around the edges for the dark hours. It's been on 12/12 for about a week now, how long should it take before it starts to bud? I'll post again in a couple of weeks or something and let you know how its gettin on.
