I hope the greens make some gains! I may be in CT and an US citizen, but I was born in Montreal, lived in Scarborough, ON until the 4th grade, went to school in Vancouver (I started the same year as the APEC/pepper spray on my heggs debacle), and I keep up with the news.
It doesn't look like the greens will get any seats. Their leader didn't get elected and no greens are even leading in their ridings yet. Looks like the Cons are going to win again. Might still only be a minority gov again though.
Looks like another Harper government. Ugh. I feel like my vote was a total waste. Dion needs to step down. I doubt Harper will run again, on the bright side.
I've felt that way for quite awhile now. That's why I couldn't even be bothered to vote. I'm an ABC voter. Since my riding is never Con it doesn't really matter. I have voted for the reform party in the past just to help split the right wing vote. Unfortunately thats what happening to left vote this time.
Ughhh. Polls are closed. Looks like they got 147 seats and they needed 155 to form a majority. (Muahahahahahaahaha - suckers!!) And democracy doesn't exist in Canada?
We have four center left parties, all saying basically the same thing, and all filching votes from each other. I think it's pretty clear that Canada leans toward the left. But what it does is allows Harper to continue establishing these do-nothing minority governments and that's not good for anyone. And it's indicative of a system that's not working. When the will of the people isn't allowed to rule because of the way of the system is set up, that's a broken democracy This is why I voted to change the way our electoral process works in Ontario last Provincial Election. We could have had Proportional representation, but nobody was even aware or realized this - so it happened again in the Federal election. When are people going to learn to vote in favour of real electoral reform when they have the chance?
Better than the make people poor and fuck over the economy governments all the liberals and NDP want... Honestly if the liberals got in, my parents would be poor and I'd be fucked...
I voted for the proportional representation in the last provincial election too. I was disappointed that it didn't pass. It wasn't a true proportional representation system but it would have been better than the system we have now. Most people I talked to at the time were not even aware that is was going to be on the ballot or what it was about.
Could you please explain how? The Federal Liberal Party held a majority government from 1993-2004 - and they brought the government budget into a surplus.
Yeah, do you remember we had 2 whole weeks of March Break off. Used to call 'em "Rae Days". It was pretty horrible. But it would be nice to see what Layton can do, don't you think?
Don't remember the Rae Days, I do remember him saying "we aren't going to balance this budget on the backs of the poor, so he went on to spent billions on wonderful benefits programs and pretty soon it became clear the deficit was going to fall off a cliff and the province was going with it. He not only destroyed the NDP provincially, he destroyed them Federally.
