Tokyo, Japan: Cannabinoids may play a role in the treatment of various inflammatory diseases, including rheumatoid arthritis and allergic asthma, according to a review published in the September issue of the Journal of Neuroimmunology. A research team from Tokyo's National Institute of Neuroscience, Department of Immunology, wrote, "Current studies suggest that cannabinoids may prove to be useful alternatives ... in treating a variety of human inflammatory disorders" because they modulate both the function and secretion of cytokines (regulatory proteins that are released by immune cells and are responsible for an immune response). In particular, authors note that cannabinoids may play a role in the treatment of Multiple Sclerosis, rheumatoid arthritis, diabetes, and allergic asthma. A 2003 study published in the journal Brain found that "cannabis may ... slow down the neurodegenerative processes that ultimately lead to chronic disability in multiple sclerosis and probably other [inflammatory] diseases." ive got allergic asthma but its pretty weak. hopefully one day i will be prescribed medicinal marijuana!
I've had my Rx for a year now, and it's funny that they give it to me for arthritis and a stiff neck that I've suffered from for 10 years, then say that smoking pot will help me. Wow, so I've been smoking for 10 years already, but now that it's legal, it might haev some medicinal benefits? coughcoughbullshitcoughcough but still i love to have access to so many kinds and various dispensaries now. I notice that if I dont smoke before bed, I dont wake up stiff and sore from my arthritis. It has no benefits to my inflammitory disease psoriasis, psoriatic arthritis at all.. in fact I think it worsens my condition. I"m starting to become more and more amused at the excuses we all use to smoke pot. Sure its good for the head, but still it's not helping anyone I know who suffers from serious conditions. its all just another excuse to try and legalize it. and here ive been an advocate for years.. even was president of a hemp club back in college.
It also is very helpful with IBS and crohns (both inflammatory diseases of the gi track). I have very bad IBS and may have crohns (they don't know yet). Marijuanna is the only thing that keeps the pain and nausia at bay some times. Unfortunatly under Canadian Law I don't qualify for med pot exemption unless I am officially diagnosed with crohns which will be years before it can be really determined.
