Is it bad that I dont want to let my boyfriend's son watch Tom and Jerry all day long?

I'm trying to get him interested in other cartoons like Little Einsteins, Dora The Explorer, Go Diego, Go (specially these two because Im teaching him Spanish) and Ni-hao, Ki-lan, because these actually teach things to kids (any other like these, let me know), but everytime I put them on, he starts crying and saying "I want cartoons! I want cartoons! Please stop!" and I feel bad that Im making him watch these cartoons. I dont mind that he watches Tom and Jerry, I just want him to watch other things too. He gets into them after awhile, but there's always some crying. Do you think is counterproductive if I "force" him to watch these?

eh? Tom and Jerry! WOW! I forgot about that cartoon. If he knows what he likes then he knows what he likes.

But these cartoons teach nothing, they are pure entertainment and I like them too, but I want his mind to be a little more active than watching a cat and a mouse fight each other.
At least those other cartoons are interactive. I'm just trying to give him a little bit of everything.Tom and Jerry AND the other cartoons.

I wouldnt worry about it too much Aura, when he is at his regular daycare he watches the other shows every day, and otherwise he is doing fine in development, he talks more and more everyday it seems like. If he gives you a major problem I would just let him watch what he wants, it's not like he needs to be punished you know?

You want him to learn something. There are shows with them that teach you how to make a mean trap or get your way outta situations......and i did see one about not smoke'n before. They do use math sometimes.

I know, I didnt know he watched those other shows at his daycare. I actually dont know what he does there at all. ANd it wasnt like I was trying to punish him, but expose him to new, different things.

I wouldn't try to force other cartoons, as I'd work to limit TV time in general. Spending too much time in front of the tube can lead to a sedimentary lifestyle, Attention-deficit problems, as well as a lack of social skills.

Maybe go to a park, the local children's museum, a hike, dig up worms in the backyard, or hit a water fountain. :)

pfff...tom and jerry teaches one everything. :D

besides, at such a young age, even just sitting and watching tom and jerry is pretty stimulating I imagine. I remember when I was very small and would watch cartoons, I was still being creative and using my imagination, sort of like trying to form the story before it happened or imagine my own plot line. It was just fun to do it when I was watching because they were right there in front of me.

    That's true.

The thing is that there's only like 6 episodes on demand, that he has been watching since Monday, over and over again.

And just to clear something. I dont make him watch a full cartoon if I see he's not liking it.He always wants me to change it in the first 5minutes and after that he's telling me "That's not monkey, that's Boots" and repeating the word and all into it. So it cant be that bad.

I actually agree with her to certain extent.

But Jack and I did a lot of things today, he helped me water the plants. We played with Sakura, with the trains,we colored for 2 minutes and then proceeded to throw the color pencils to the kitty and we also went to the playground :)

if the daycare uses the tube, I'd REALLY work on cutting out weekday telly at all.
tape a T&J episode or two and use them as "rewards" on the weekend.
