Obama's cash for clunkers turning into a disaster for car dealers. http://blogs.cars.com/kickingtires/...on-details-cash-for-clunkers-pandemonium.html http://www.startribune.com/business/52030377.html?elr=KArksUUUoDEy3LGDiO7aiU No one is complaining that the show rooms are full, but there are problems and these problems scare me if this is how we are going to implement our health care system. A lot of car dealers don't have the staff to deal with the rush of customers, some dealers are staying open past regular hours, the showrooms are a mad house, each deal comes with 20 pages of paper that have to be filled out for the dealer to get reimbursed, and a lot of dealers AREN'T getting reimbursed. The Minnesota Auto Dealers Association can't find a deal that has gone through in the state. Not good. If the government can't get this right, I'm really scared to think of them in charge of health care. PLEASE SOMEONE COME BACK WITH AN EDUCATED RESPONSE TO PROVE ME WRONG!! I SO DESPERATELY WANT TO BE WRONG ABOUT THIS, BUT OUR SOCIETY AND COUNTRY ARE BEING DESTROYED AS WE WATCH!!
Not wrong. I think that the goal would be to take older cars off the road that are not equipped with GPS..... And make parts for older cars harder to get. Thereby forcing people to buy NEWER vehicles with all the stupid gagets and doo dads that ultimately cause trouble and cost more to fix. The gov don't care if they hold up their end of the bargain, because until the dealerships figure it out completely, their agenda is working. They'll get LOTS of older cars off the road before the dealers start refusing to go along. It is ALL ABOUT the struggling economy. See? Bad economy makes for all sorts of useful scenarios for the gov to get their way... Aw shit, I sound like a "conspiracy theorist." But I think by now MOST of us realize that we are all here theorizing about all sorts of things, and you can't separate big government from a certain amount of conspiracy. Sorry, but we are going to hell in a hand basket.
Lord Obama, my ass!! It's Chairman Obama, dumbass. And yes, I question everything he does, because everything he has done so far has been wrong. What's new in Politics, though, right?
So, you think the government isn't getting this right? One of your articles states that the system is overloaded. In some ways that is good, and obviously in other ways it's a pain in the ass. To me it seems a little bottle-necked. To know if it is truly screwed up, I'd have to give it more time. Perhaps there is confusion and a bit of obfuscation (by car-dealers who are not happy with the scheme in principle) going on here. In the UK we have a similar scheme...similar noises being made about it, but don't people always complain about something new? I think it it is a really good thing to do. It gets lots of the old gas-guzzlers and environmentally unsound cars off the road too. But, they have to be replace with something better not the same type of cars but more shiny.
http://www.breitbart.com/article.php...show_article=1 AP sources: Govt to suspend 'cash for clunkers' Jul 30 07:39 PM US/Eastern By KEN THOMAS Associated Press Writer WASHINGTON (AP) - Congressional officials say the government plans to suspend the popular "cash for clunkers" program amid concerns it could quickly use up the $1 billion in rebates for new car purchases. The Transportation Department called congressional offices late Thursday to alert them to the decision to halt the program, which offered owners of old cars and trucks $3,500 or $4,500 toward a new, more fuel-efficient vehicle. The congressional officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak publicly. Through late Wednesday, 22,782 vehicles had been purchased through the program and nearly $96 million had been spent. But dealers raised concerns of large backlogs in the system, prompting the suspension. Copyright 2009 The Associated Press. All rights reserved. Car dealers whine too much. They make money and they still cry. So they'll have to wait for some sorta rebate.
the airline industry bailout bill, authorizing $5 billion in cash and $10 billion in loan guarantees, and President George W. Bush signed it into law on Saturday
It's not about car dealerships making money, it's about the ineffectiveness of government run programs
Not every government program is going to run smoothly. At least the public is getting something out of this.... Has anyone heard anything about people being able to get financing from car dealerships though for these purchases?
Doesn't sound like such a disaster to me. http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=email_en&sid=aWKYBKED5EKI http://finance.yahoo.com/news/White-House-reviewing-cash-apf-3529110957.html?x=0
I have a real problem with the cars being destroyed and not salvaged. My truck doesn't qualify it's too old and too many miles on it. What are being turned in are actually later model functioning vehicles with usable parts that are now no longer part of the used part system. I am glad car dealers are selling more cars, but it's not to the poor or working middle class. They are too insecure to sign on to a new debt payment program. This is another handout or subsidy to the upwardly mobile, who probably would have purchased a new vehicle somewhere in the next two years anyway. And today they get 4500.00 discount and their driveable vehicles are taken out of the used car market for the truly poor.
The people that vote on this stuff don't lead ordinary lives how would they know? Unless they ask their friendly lobbyists or marketers. They cetainly don't pay any attention to to the voters or their constiguents. Or they would know know what we want for health care reform and that's single payer.
You complain about everything, why is this no surprise. This Cash for Clunkers program is to REMOVE clunkers from the road, not just let them trade owners.Wouldn't that defeat the purpose? 25 years or newer, you call that late model? Just engine -drive train cannot be resold body& suspension parts can be sold. well known gas guzzlers are being turned in for the most part, alot of SUV's particularly i'm sure you have complained about their mpg a few times , ey? You have any facts to back this up or is it just the per usual gardener rant?
I don't get how this could be viewed as a failure. Cash is flowing and inefficient cars are coming off the road. As for the problems with reimbursement, it's just the nature of a large beauracracy. It'll get worked out.
LMAO, this article couldn't have been more wrong. Cash for Clunkers brings 9,010,000 results, 9,009,999 got it right, why did you post the 1 that got it way wrong ?
When I am driving a 1986 Ford Ranger yeah, It's engine and drive trains that keep our poor folks cars running. What the seats and glass are supposed to keep us on the road. You think we need shocks more than engine parts? Actually I haven't but what I am seeing traded in are useable vehicles much newer than the one I am driving. You have any stats on who's trading up...I am sure someone has them and I don't thinks it's the poor.
that was the very first press release on it, there were no others.. if you look at the time stamp you would know that..
