No, Catalina Island is my favorite place and they have so much wildlife. Those animals have no where to escape to because they're water locked...this is very sad.

any buffalo you see around today is due to the population moved to catalina by a movie producer. he saved buffalo. they're so interesting. i used to go see them on catalina. i hope the casino doesn't burn, and the kick ass pizza restaraunt makes it.

Santa Catalina Island fire 75 percent contained


Another Southern California fire, on Santa Catalina Island off the coast of Los Angeles, was 75 percent contained by Thursday.
Firefighters reported significant progress after conducting a number of "burnbacks" to clear brush from the fire's path.

The blaze, which was kindled by an unattended campfire, has burned 200 acres so far. Firefighters hope to have it fully contained by Friday morning

Fire containment today is a far cry from the infamous Catalina Island Hotel Fire of 1915, when Fire Department resources were limited to two horse drawn pumps and a small volunteer force of Fire Fighters

Tis the season for fires. I know a bit north of where I live there is a 55,000 acre fire close in the Boundry Waters area. I woke up this morning and all I could smell was smoke. I kinda like that smell.

 

i think its bullshit all the hoopla over catalina island while the Okefenokee swamp an half of florida have been burning for weeks.
who gives a fuck about a tourist trap island.

what about a wildlife refuge?
wow a whole 4000 acres of tourist trap burns an it makes headlines,in the mean time theres a 150 thousand acre fire destroying a wild life refuge,and another 100 thousand acre fire 0 % contained raging an there pushed under the rug.

it means land of the trembling earth because of the peat bogs you walk on.it was named by the native americans that lived there. its actually a magical place, or at least it was.

That's the point.

 

Fires are nature's way of "clearcutting" and in Yellowstone, fires (heat) are the only way for cones from a certain conifer to open up and allow the seeds to spread.

HHB, I heard about all of the fires on NPR...and I think that the reason why the Catalina Island fire created more "hoopla" was because it was endangering homes and etc and caused people to have to evacuate. If I'm not mistaken, the other fires haven't been in areas where there are a lot of people. Not that I'm excusing anything, I'm just saying.

And thanks for those concerned about my job out on Catalina. The camp is on the west side of the island, whereas the fires were on the east side...so everything is OK...plus, everything will definitely be under control by August...so everything is kosher. Although, it would be my luck to get a job that the buildings end up burning up before I even got there...

 

Well anyone who can’t control their appetite long enough to take a dump, might just have issues with weight :H
