Catcher in the Rye is about a boy who tries to escape phoniness by extreme self righteous isolation. One can understand the motive but always to bite him in the face is his own ironic existence as that which he hates...its always our condemnation, isn't it? Once faced with the humanity of other people, you can finally see your own and your face is just as ugly as theirs. Its so scary because its comfortable pointing fingers. Pointing fingers isn't wrong in itself...but there is little ways to know if when you're doing it, its right. Its larger then that.
Excellent book, one of my favorites. Holden's character captures a good amount of issues that every kid must face when growing up, and the events that shape his life reveal many problems with the world and bring them to the table for all to see.
