Every time I watch CBN I feel disgusted and angry. I wrote to them today, but I doubt it will do much good. Not sure what help posting a thread about it is, but I just have to vent it to somebody. ---peace

This is what I wrote: >>>>>>> I do not enjoy the programs on CBN. CBN claims to be the "Christian Broadcasting Network" but it does not speak to a large population of Christians, namely, Christians that do not hold your right-wing conservative viewpoints. I am a liberal Lutheran, and I wish that there was a broadcasting network that truly did speak to Christians. Instead, my only option is the biased news stories of the so-called Christian network. Not all Christians are republican, anti-gay, pro-life, and against interfaith dialogue. I hope this message does not fall on deaf ears.

I agree. The "C" in CBN should be for Conservative. It usually has very little if anything to do with Christianity.

CBN and the 700 Club are free advertising for the Republican Party. That's all they are.

The anti-homosexual, pro-baby birth have importance to true Christian/Human values. If they are against interfaith dialogue, then that is where I would agree with you. You can learn a lot of interesting Biblical facts by watching those programs, but my brain tunes out when they start asking for money. I used to watch and listen to lots of those programs when I was younger, but not any more. You have to think for yourself. Ponder over things for your self. Don't follow every single word these TV preachers say. This is the kind of gullible thinking that has allowed perverts like Warren Jeffs to do what they have done. As for things like homosexuallity, I personally have given it a lot thought. What I believe about the whole business is that there are really more heterophobes out there than homophobes. Popular culture, which is cultivated by the BOOB tube(TV) has transformed sex into a sport and or a right. But in fact it is meant for a responsible man and a responsible woman to procreate and raised the next generation. The concept of TRUE love in marriage has been stolen. For many, a marriage means staying together for a few years until one or the other gets tired of the other. I could go on about the subject, but I have already written about at some length elsewhere, like in my thread, The Axis Of Evil Bush Did Not Talk About.

Vision TV (which i think is Canada's version of a CBN type thing) isn't horrible. I find the programs are too sappy usually for me (like 7th Heaven) but they have a variaty of faith based programming from Islam to Christian to Hindi.

I am glad I have never seen CBN.

I'm feeling calmer now. I guess it's so amazing (and unfortunate) that a network that is supposed to be centered around the love of the gospel does nothing but provoke anger in me. I wish that after watching the Christian Broadcasting Network, I felt more assured and strengthened by my Christian faith. Instead, I feel divisive, and find myself listing the ways that "I'm not like them" and I hate when I do that.

Well, I don't hate them. But, I don't particularly enjoy my faith being hijacked. I think the key word there is "supposed" to be centered around the gospel. A lot of it is far right rhetoric. I don't find all Christians who don't agree with me to be that way. The fact that good ole' Pat has referred to homosexuals as "fags", has said that world leaders deserved illnesses and others should be murdered, as well as numerous other things that I see as less than Christian...I feel I have a right to speak out against these things. The same way he feels he has the right.

BTW I can say I don't agree with most of what he says and still pray for him. I don't need or want to hate the man.

Hate is what brought us the Holocaust and a lot of wars, and a whole lot more human misery. Love, ultimately, never brought anyone any misery. Because I love my fellow man (human being) I'm against the war in Iraq, for example. If I didn't, I'd probably go and hook up with some big international corporation and make a bunch of money off of the war. I believe (rightly) that people that unjustly oppress other human beings are going to have to ultimately pay for it, and yes, that's a religious belief. Love and hate make all the difference as to what happens in this life, and the next one, too.

Fed Up, I understand where you're coming from but I really don't believe it's right to hate anyone. I think like Charise it's a very destructive emotion. Just because you're feeling it doesn't mean you should feed into it.

Granted, we all slip and do things we shouldn't. I think that pride in emotions such as hate, egotism, fear etc. is just as dangerous as the emotions themselves.

Any Christian that accepts the SIN of homosexuality (not the person, the sin) as okay is a questionable Christian. Any Christian that accepts the murder of innocent children is a questionable Christian.

I cannot speak for CBN news, but from the sound of it, it seems they are closer to the Bible then the worldview that you hold (which is closer to the world's)

You know, as usual, I think that JesusDiedForU is missing the point. The problem with CBN and the 700 Club is not that they don't have SOME basic Christian views. The real problem, in my view, is that it has, for all intents and purposes, become a bunch of free advertising for the Republican Party. The Republicans are always right, and the Democrats are always wrong. There's absolutely nothing wrong with the war in Iraq, in fact, we should invade a lot more countries while we have the chance, and assasinate more world leaders if we don't like their policies. That's the kind of crap you hear on CBN every day. It's a little bit of a "Christian" veneer and the rest of it is a bunch of un-Christian, inhumane Republican politics.

The murder of innocent children? Like the ones in Iraq and New Orleans? Is that what you mean? Oh, and since we're talking about Christian sins please tell me about the verse where Jesus proclaimed homesexuality to be a sin.

Some people become christians so they can point the way to a better life.

Others become "christians" so they can just point.

the first kind wants to show people how to live.

the second wants to tell them what to do.

Good Christians should kick people like jesusdiedforyou to the curb and that Dan hick from SD before I start hating all of you, and I'm not alone on this

Take back your religion from the christian jihadists before its too late

Don't let mental illness ruin what could be a good force in the world

You mean they are closer to YOUR view of the bible...

JD4U seems to think he has his hands on god's little black book of acceptable occupants of heaven.

That's a pretty worldly viewpoint. Most of these Christian televangelists promote their worldly view of what Christianity should be.
God causes many "innocent" children to die. I have no problem with this, do you?
Not really, JDFU. Many of your statements about the bible reflect a worldly wisdom.

The Bible is useful for correction, teaching and rebuking...

I am tired of these liberal Christians coming on here and spreading their propaganda that is far from the Bible... but not to far away from the world's point of view. Keep in mind, most of the world does not take the side of the God of the Bible but rather the opposite.

See why it is important to be in the world but not of it...

Children that are aborted are the BIGGEST persecuted people group in the world... Don't even mention the innocent kids in Iraq... why you stand there and support legal genocide.

    Here is a verse:

Do you not know that the wicked will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor male prostitutes nor homosexual offenders nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God.

I am a coach... if I never "pointed" out my players mistakes they would never get better. Bible teaches us that it is useful for rebuking, teaching, and correcting, however some abuse that power. Often times in the form of legalism. BUT do not through the baby out with the bath water. The Bible is clear that it is a a field guide for life and it should be used as a guide for correcting.
