Hi, I am 27 years old and have been living with Cerebral Palsy all my life. Cerebral Palsy or CP as it is also commonly called is a neurological disorder that occurs from lack of oxygen to the brain (most of the time occurring at birth). This causes the signals from my brain to my muscles to not fire correctly and in turn causes spasticity in my legs and back. I also have an issue with my muscles tighting and cannot relax. Because of this it causes me walk with a limp and a sway of sorts, also known as a bad "gate". As a kid growing into my teenage years I went through several transitions as far as mobility is concerned. I was in a wheelchair from the time I was 1-6 then after a few surgeries to lengthen the muscles I was able to graduate to walker then be able to walk independently. Around 15 I had a another surgery to stretch my muscles along with a few other things. A few years after the surgery I was able to walk with the use of one cane instead of the traditional medical canes or walkers. Now at 27 my muscles have started to spasm more and it has made every day nearly unbearable because of pain and lack of mobility. I am currently living alone and that has also become almost impossible. I feel like If something doesn't turn around soon that I will end up back in a wheelchair. I am currently taking action to get a pump installed that will deliver a muscle relaxant directly to my spine but like everything else with my disability this is taking a long time and I feel like I am the only one with these issues even though I know that not to be true. I was wondering if anyone else has had issues in this arena or knows of anyone with the same struggle... Thanks for the help
Hi! I hope that it are well! I see that your post was written some time ago. I, myself, do not have CP but my young son is at the beginning of his journey and is currently being diagnosed. He seems to be a very strong, determined little fella and I think one day he will. Be able to walk with minimal complications. I have been a member of hipforums since I was in high school and I am back To talk to other like minded people about the obstacles, reality, and what has most helped them cope with Cp or others they may know who have struggled with this. Let's get some replies on this.
Amazed to read the post of crimson. The same issue with my younger brother, at his birth doctor didn't check or aee the oxygen system properly and he is now live this CP problem from 20 years. He is now young, but he cannot walk properly feeling lame from right leg. Doctors said there is no remedies regarding this problem untill his brain send the proper command to his leg. Till now he is facing so many problems in his 20 years life specially school life and college too. Here in Pakistan, there is no special privileges to such person, he still survived and we are all hopping for a miracle that one day he walked like a normal boy ...
