Champagne

I got high on champagne last night for the first time in about 3 years. I don't think you can get drunk on it, so high is the right term right?

How often do you drink champagne?

 

i tasted it at my grandparents' 50th anniversary party...

i'm pretty sure that was the only time

 

I rarely, if ever, drink champagne... it gives me a headache if I drink too much of the stuff....

I delight in pronouncing the word as it is spelled rather than the actual pronunciation of the word...

 

I like to call it "bubbly"

 

In the past I would drink it about three times a year, so not often. Now I'm trying to give up all forms of booze.

 

in a highball glass add a glass worth of champagne...2 shots of gin and then mango juice...FANTASTIC!

 

Here is a beer brewed with champagne yeast I had a couple weeks ago. Very interesting beer.

I have been off my tits on champagne. In high school "sparkling white" in enormous $5 casks was standard fare.

Drunk is the word I would use.

 

The Beer Champagne that I had wasn't very good. I can't remember what it was called. It was a German bottle.

 

i remember one time seeing my cousin sitting in a doorway, drooling on himself and speaking in tongues after 4 or 5 of them...

 

Real champagne gets me high. I dance like a seventies gigalo.

Rat, beer-champagne sounds like it would be a disaster.

 

I kind of doubt that is what it was, as Deus is the only beer I can think of that is made like that. You're probably thinking of something like champale, which this is not.

 

i dont think i've ever had proper champagne, but i've had asti and didnt like it very much. way too sweet for me to have much of.

over the summer though i became smitten with cava, which is an inexpensive but very tasty and refreshing sparkling white from spain. unlike asti it is very dry, and unlike other really cheap sparkling wines i've had its the full strength of regular wine (around 13%ABV)

its dry enough and delicious enough to drink a lot of, strong enough to get a real serious buzz going, and affordable enough to be more than just for special occasions.

most bottles i've bought were between 9 and 13 bucks.

cristalino is very affordable and very nice. so is segura viudas and freixenet.

cristalino also comes in a dry sparkling blush variety which is kind of tasty. i prefer regular usually though.

a sweet (but girly) treat during a hot summer evening:

slice some strawberries longways and sprinkle a little sugar on them to sweeten a little and to draw out the juices a bit. let them sit like this for a few minutes. after the sugar works its magic, fill a champagne flute or narrow wine glass with the berries, and top the glass off with well chilled cava.

i've been wanting to try what you mentioned, rat, but as i recall it is quite pricey. i've also been wanting to give dogfish head's fort a try (unrelated topic i guess)

Comparing asti and champagne is like comparing budweiser to your favourite micro-brew.

I think everybody should get high once in their life on real champagne.

I used to be a regular bubbly drinker when I lived in London and had money. Sunday morning champagne breakfast followed by an afternoon of Bloody Marys and jazz. Fond memories.

 

Champagne and orange juice is a heavenly combination.

What's champale? No, this was an import from Europe of some sort. I had it at a fancy French bistro in NYC.
