I'm gonna go see it, but I veeeery sceptical... just because Johnny Depp plays Willy Wonka, I'll give it a chance, but I seriously doubt it's even gonna come close to the original one.

Johnny Depp is no Gene Wilder. He's human after all. Oh and how can anyone spell a name like Charlie incorrectly?

I have to say, when I first saw the original teaser for the new one, it looked great.
But the final trailer makes it look a little dull. Oh well, I'm gonna see it anyway.

There's no IMAX theater in my area, so I'm going to see it on a regular screen.

More often than not, remakes aren't as good as the originals. However, my gut feeling tells me that this could be fun.

I agree, no one could play Willy Wonka like Gene Wilder... but maybe Johnny Depp will put a new, interesting take on it

I think it looks great. I just watched original last week, and it's still a classic. But I'm really looking forward to seeing the even more dark and disturbed spin Depp and Tim Burton put on it.

the original is my all time favorite movie...so its facing some high expectations.....but i really dig jhonny Depp's work, and i think he's gonna kick ass.....i keep changing the channel when they show previews....i want to be surprised by the changes......i will be glad to not see...."cheer up charlie" that song always pissed me off.......

You didn't misspell the name Charley anyways. Charlie,Charly, and Charley are all variations of the name. This particular Charlie,is spelled, well,Charlie :p

I'm looking forward to this one. I'm not expecting much though. I've heard it's a new variation of the original story and not so much a remake of the first film. We'll see how that turns out :)

It looks a bit stupid to me and Johnny Depp does not suit the part at all by the look of it. Its one of those films you shouldn't touch.

I thought the same thing when I watched tim burton's remake of planet of the apes I was very skeptical when I first heard of his remake, but the remake was pretty good, and had a whole different ending..... he put a whole new spin on it..... Id imagine that burton will do the same with this one... it will have its own little charm......

tim burton's great, johnny depp's great, i'm looking forward to seeing it. depp used marilyn manson's character in his "dope Hat" video as inspiration for willy wonka, thats why he's so creepy.

Well Burton is quoted as saying he really wanted Marilyn Manson to play the part, and frankly though I think ol' Brian is a crap musician he's an intelligent dude and an artist at what he does who pushes the envelope.

I think he would have taken a dark book and given it the malefic whimsy it would need. Sadly apparently scheduling conflicts prevented him from taking it on completely so he bowed out and Burton asked Johnny Depp to channel Marilyn Manson.

I wonder what Brian's got in the ol' cooker. He started off ripping off Alice Cooper, then moved to David Bowie... then really got into the whole Berlin decadent stuff... he's been doing his homework and manages to repackage and rethink the essence of what's going on.

He would probably have a good take on the Decadent movement, but we own that space, and we're not cedeing it to him, and besides his sucky music wouldn't fit that vibe.

I've heard the term "remake" in a few of the above threads.

Its not REALLY a "remake" per-say, more of an "interpretation" of the original story by Roald Dahl (a very good book might I say). You just have to keep that in mind while watching it.
