They used to have this handheld plastic device for tabulating the cost of your groceries at the store. I got one somehow and it kind of became my toy when I was still pretty young. I found that if you kept hitting the bottom on the far right it would tabulate the amount of money one dollar at a time. So one day I resolved to get to a large number, maybe 1,000 or 10,000, that way. And so I did that for several days. I remembered for years after that how I wasted my life, wasted it really. Doing that pointless thing for several days, when I could have been playing and doing other things.

Ahh. But you were playing with the shopping counter. I know exactly what that counter is. In the early part of our marriage, money was tight. And we would use one to keep track of how much money we were spending buying food. As a example if you only had $50.00 you didn't want to exceed that at the check out . And then have to worry about what items to put back.
Kind of pre- credit card/ debit card days. Where you have a little more leeway.
